8. Our skin is covered with very small holes, called
follicles.
Each follicle has a fine hair growing out of it.
The follicle produces a special moisturiser for the
skin, called sebum, that flows out along the hair.
9. Sometimes the follicle gets filled with dried out oil
and dead skin.
Sebum builds up.

16. The colouration of the skin shades darker or lighter than
the usual skin colour is known as the skin pigmentation. Our
skin gets its colour from a pigment, called melanin. Melanin
is produced by melanocytes (the type of cells that are present
in the basal layer of the epidermis) and is responsible for the
coloration of skin, hair and eyes. It protects our skin from
UVB radiation damage, thus reducing the risk of cancer.
What causes Skin Pigmentation?
Skin Pigmentation is caused by the increase in levels of
melanin. It could be the result of inflammation (that occurs
after treatment, like the laser), injury, sun damage or
hormonal changes. Birthmarks and freckles are a different
type of pigmentation, as they are genetically determined. The
appearance of patches, however, can be the result of a disease,
so it should be diagnosed as soon as possible.
17. Pigmentation is the colouring of an individual’s skin. The colour of
skin appears normal when a person is healthy. A person’s skin may change
colour and grow darker (hyperpigmentation) or lighter (hypopigmentation)
because of illness and injury. Below are some of the Pigmentation
Disorders:
A. Hyperpigmentation
It is the darkening of an area of skin or nails caused by increased melanin.
Conditions such as pregnancy or decreased function of the adrenal gland
(Addison’s disease), may cause a greater production of melanin. One of the
leading causes of hyperpigmentation is exposure to sunlight. It can also be
caused by various drugs, including some antibiotics, antiarrhythmics, and
antimalarial drugs. An example of hyperpigmentation is Melasma which is
characterised by tan or brown patches, most commonly on the face.
B.Hypopigmentation
It is the loss of skin colour which is caused by melanin depletion.
18. C. Vitiligo
Vitiligo is an autoimmune, disease in which there is an appearance of smooth,
white patches on the skin occur all over the body.
D. Albinism
It is a rare inherited disorder which is caused by the absence of an enzyme that
produces melanin. Pigmentation is completely lost as a result in eyes, skin and
hair.
E. Pityriasis Alba
It most commonly affects children and is characterised by colourless, scaly skin
patches.
F. Seborrheic Dermatitis
It is an inflammatory skin disease which is marked by red, scaly, itchy patches of
skin in oil prone areas.
G. Tinea Versicolor
It is caused by fungal infection and characterised by itchy, scaly patches of lighter
or pinkish skin.
H. De-pigmentation
It is the lightening of the skin or loss of pigment. It can be caused by many local
and systemic conditions. The loss of pigment can be partial (caused because of
injury to the skin) or complete (caused by Vitiligo). It can be temporary or
permanent.
19. Pigmentation is visible to naked eyes, but it takes
10-20 years for a scar to develop. So, we can say that these
don’t develop suddenly but over a period.
Diagnosis of Pigmentation can be made by Wood
Lamp’s Examination. Wood’s lamp is a device that emits light
in the 365-nanometer range and is used by the skin specialists.
The test is performed in a dark area, allowing the
light emitted by the device to glow on the affected area for a
small period and looking for any changes in colour or
fluorescence. If the skin is healthy, then it won’t fluoresce
under Wood’s Lamplight.
20. Pigmentation is treated mostly through three chemical methods.
1. Chemical Peel
Chemical peels are used by Dermatologists to enhance the appearance of
skin. In this process, a chemical solution is applied to the skin that
exfoliates it and eventually leads it to come off. The newly made skin is
smoother and less wrinkled as compared to the old skin. But, the new skin
becomes more sensitive to sunlight.
2) Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion is a kind of cosmetic surgery which involves removal of the
superficial layers of skin with the help of a rapidly revolving tool, mostly
made up of a diamond.
3) Laser Resurfacing
It is a process which uses a laser to treat minor facial flaws by removing
layers of skin. Healing takes around ten days.
21. We often look for treatments that are easily performed and things that are
easily available. For trying home remedies, one has to be patient, and
he/she should not stop trying. Few home remedies that are most useful for
treating pigmentation are described briefly below.
1) Use Raw Potatoes Cut the potato into two parts preferably of the same size
and rub it on the affected side. Perform this for three to four times a day for
a month.
2) Lemon and Honey Cut a lemon and take one-half of it. On one-half put
two-three drops of honey. Rub this for about five minutes on the pigmented
area. Just leave it for 15 min and then wash off your face with regular
water. Repeat the process for twice a day until you notice a change.
22. 3) Apple Cider Vinegar It is a magical solution which cures
almost all skin related infections. Take 3-4 tablespoons each
of apple cider vinegar and water and mix it well. Apply this
on the affected part and allow it to settle down for about 5
minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water. Repeat this twice
daily for desired results.
4) Onion Onions are rich in Vitamin C (an antioxidant) which
helps in curing pigmentation. Take an onion, cut it into two
halves and rub one-half directly on the affected area. Leave it
as it is for about 10 minutes or so and then wash it off with
water.
5) Aloe Vera It is among the most efficient home remedies for
treating skin pigmentation. Take two tablespoons of aloe vera
gel and apply it on the affected area. For Best Results leave it
for 20 minutes and wash it with lukewarm water.
23. Skin wrinkles are formed when the skin loses its elasticity. As
long as the skin remains soft, any wrinkle or twitching of the
skin disappears when the pressure on the skin stops. But the
skin that has lost its flexibility retains the lines resulting from
smiling or frowning the forehead for money even after the face
is neutral expression. Over time these lines deepen into the
face forming what is known as wrinkles.
Some wrinkles are caused by old age and may remain forever.
Whatever you do, you should get some wrinkles as long as
you live longer. The first signs of wrinkles usually appear in
the weak skin tissue around the eyes, and lines of smile. In the
next step, damage occurs in the cheeks and lips.
24. As we get older, our skin becomes thinner and drier,
contributing both to the formation of wrinkles.
However, there are other factors that determine the
rate and extent of wrinkles, including food,
nutrition, muscle strength, facial expressions of a
particular person, stress and proper care of skin (or
lack thereof) and exposure to environmental
pollutants, habits and lifestyles such as smoking.
Genetic factor may play a role, too.
25. The most important factor in all factors is excessive sun
exposure that not only dehydrates the skin but also releases
free cracks that can damage skin cells. Sun is the worst
enemy for your skin. 90% of what was thought to be signs
of aging in the skin is actually the result of excessive sun
exposure.
Moreover, excessive sun exposure does not necessarily
mean sunbathing or sunburn. 70% of sun damage occurs
during daily activities such as driving and walking to and
from the car. The ultraviolet rays that cause this damage are
present throughout Today and all seasons of the year, even
worse, the sun's effects on the skin are of the cumulative
thing even though they are not clear for long years.
26. Eat a good balance of food contains many
different fruits and vegetables, which is
desirable to be raw to provide the skin with
the food that it needs. Also take whole grains,
seeds, nuts and legumes.
Drink daily at least half a gallon of water until
Lucent does not feel thirsty. This helps to
keep the skin irrigated and push the toxins
away from the skin, thus not creating
conditions for the formation of wrinkles.
27. Do not smoke and avoid alcohol and caffeine. All these
materials are withdrawn. The freshness of the skin opens the
way to the formation of wrinkles. In addition, the habit of
smoking drives religion until its lips contain hundreds of self
each day to draw self.
The softening of the skin caused by the withdrawal of smoke
from the tobacco roll leads to the formation of wrinkles at a
relatively young age.
Regardless of your age or your skin type, you should always
protect yourself from the sun. Apply sunscreen with at least
15SPF to all sun-exposed areas of your body, especially the
face, regardless of the season or weather conditions. Exposure
to the sun is the sole and greatest cause of skin damage.
28. Do facial exercises. Sit in a chair and stretch your jaw
in an exaggerated chewing motion. Stretch the
muscles under the chin and in the front of the neck.
Lying on a slab for 15 minutes every day is also a
good thing.
Do regular exercise. Like all organs of the body, the
skin gets its food from the bloodstream. And exercise
increase blood circulation to the skin.
Avoid any alcohol-containing products.
29. Focus your attention on the expressions of your face. If you
find yourself looking aside or you do the polarization of
your eyebrows or do some other facial movements that may
cause the formation of facial wrinkles and do it repeatedly
or repeatedly, he must make a conscious effort to stop it.
Give good care to your skin and keep the skin always moist,
especially if it is dry.
Avoid using irritating soaps and face creams such as cold
cream. Use natural oils such as avocado oil to remove old
dirt and makeup, apply it gently to the face and wash it with
warm water. Use face or plate sponge several times a week
to remove dry and dead skin cells and to alert blood
circulation.
30. Do not put heavy fat around the eye before going to
bed, as this may cause a bulge around the eyes the
next morning.
Limit your use of cosmetics, choose the types you
really use, do not share anyone in cosmetics, and
replace them every 3 months.
Choosing good skin care brands can be confusing.
We recommend that you look for natural ingredients
and avoid those products that contain Vaseline,
mineral oils or any hydrogenated oils.
31. There are many excellent home remedies for the face
that can help with certain skin problems.
Some of the best treatments include:
To give the skin a pale skin, rub about half a cup of
strawberries in the mixer and then the face with the
liquid of the product and leave it for 10 minutes.
Then wash it with plain water.
To reduce the tumor around the eyes, put the cold
option over the eyes for ten minutes or more as
needed.
32. To lighten the pores of the skin, make the tomato over
the face.
To help protect the skin from damage caused by free
cracks, add a few points of green tea extract to face
lotion, delegation holding and other beauty products.
To moisturize the skin, crush grapes (a natural source
of collagen and alpha-hydroxy acids) with enough
honey to make paste, and apply the mixture over the
face as a mask.
Leave it in place for 20-30 minutes during a period of
relaxation and then wash it.
33. To remove dead surface cells of the skin and to improve the
skin texture, call the hand grip of shortgrain rice gently over
the face for a few minutes. This method has been used by
Japanese women for centuries.
To soften and nourish the skin, sprinkle half the fruit of the
avocado and stick it in your face and leave it over the face to
dry and then wash with warm water.
Avocados contain essential fatty acids and other nutrients that
help prevent premature wrinkles.
To clean the pores of the skin and keep it flexible, white egg
failed and mixed with a piece of alum and placed on the face
in the form of a mask. After 15-20 minutes, wash your face
with warm water.
