How CAPI/OpenCAPI Promote Real Business Issues and Findings • IBM and IPS both only have capability to build demo solution, cannot build real and completed product solution. • Although we can prove in some small scenario CAPI ‘s advantage, internet customer lean to choose to solutions with minimum change cost /effort (lessons learned from Tencent). • Most internet customers doesn’t have good FPGA team, prefer to introduce IDH(Independent Design House) solution. So IDHs for CAPI/OpenCAPI are playing critical role. • After published the participants sharing of their development experience in the contest. • https://openpowerfoundation.org/powerful-heterogeneous-computing-development-tool-brought-by-new- technology/ • More IDHs initiatively reached out to IBM for CAPI. Such as CT-Accel and NG-codec. • IDH recognized CAPI’s advantage on easy of use and flexibility as well as high band and low latency theoretically. Those are very important for them. Some solution porting to OpenPOWER ongoing Progress after 2018 Contest Conclusion The most effective way to promote business would be IBM, IPS, Universities working on demo solution and IDHs working on real solution development and employment

Industry impact Attracted more IDH (Indecent Design House) to contact IBM for CAPI/OpenCAPI discussion, like CT-Accel, NG-Codec Introduced CAPI/OpenCAPI to students and researchers in this area. 1. Several universities insist CAPI research and buy some Raptor severs. 2. Most teachers and students recognized CAPI advantage. They introduce this technology to startup companies. 3. Several professors are leaders of national research projects. Have influence in government purchase . Some universities have close relationship with startup companies. Fudan Univ.’s result will be technical reservation for their startup companies. Shenzhen Univ has national level big data research lab. Promote Demo Solution Development Several universities setup future CAPI/OpenCAPI demo solution plan. 1. Fudan Univ. – 8k H.265 video encoder with 2 FPGAs. 2. Shenzhe Uni. – Advertisement Click through rate participating based on CAPI. 3. Zhejiang Univ. – Optimization on Pulse Neural Network Accelerator Those result can also be exhibited in OpenPOWER summits and conference. Influence After of 2018 OpenCAPI Contest 1. IDH already have accelerator solutions in 4 areas • AI inference pre-process --- Security, monitor, and picture inference • Image transcoding – Social media • Storage compression - -Cloud storage • Video encoder – Live video network. 2. Several China IDH already have business with big internet companies.
