Youth Venture Newsletter July 2009 Dear Kristin, The 2009 Youth Venture Summit held June 26-29 in Boston, Massachusetts brought together over 130 Venturers, Allies and Community Leaders from 10 different countries. Over the course of the four-day Summit, participants had the opportunity to learn from fellow Venturers in workshops, collaborate with others during open-space meetings, develop lasting friendships and memories and continue to build a global network of changemakers. What's New This Month Golden Opportunities :: YV National Updates Check out these grants, programs and scholarships :: Featured Venturers World Youth Movement for Democracy Essay Contest :: Golden Opportunities Youth ages 18 to 30 are invited to submit their essays :: Best Buy Change Exchange on democracy. The Global Essay Contest will choose 15 winners, 3 from each region, to participate in the :: Meet an Ashoka Fellow upcoming 6th Assembly of the World Movement for Democracy in Jakarta, Indonesia during April 2010. Deadline: September 15, 2009 YV National Updates Best Buy Recycling Grant Program What's new around the US Best Buy offers grants to help increase the recycling opportunities of electronics in communities across the The 2009 YV Summit was recently held in Boston, MA on country. Back to Top Meet an Ashoka Fellow Highlighting Social Entrepreneurs Those who attended the 2009 Youth Venture Summit may recognize this social entrepreneur! Anil Chitrakar As the founder of Environmental Camps for Conservation Awareness (ECCA) in Nepal, Anil developed a series of environmental camps to mobilize Nepal's youth to fundamentally change the way the Nepalese interact with their surrounding environment. Anil also campaigned for seven years to successfully change Nepal's investment strategy in hydropower as a member of the Alliance for Energy. Back to Top
