  6. 6. <ul><li>Non-native speakers may feel that native English speakers do not make an effort to: </li></ul><ul><li>Speak slowly, articulately, and consistently. </li></ul><ul><li>Use clear and precise language to communicate information and ideas. </li></ul><ul><li>Include them in conversations when there are other native English speakers. </li></ul><ul><li>Learn about cultural differences in communication that may exist. </li></ul>
  7. 7. The meeting will be put off until the financial manager figures out all the details of last quarter’s earnings and figures. I’m sorry to put you all out. Ineffective and incomprehensible English

  9. 9. <ul><li>Non-native English speakers may: </li></ul><ul><li>Feel alienated and “out of place”. </li></ul><ul><li>Feel that they make an effort to communicate in English while native English speakers do not. </li></ul><ul><li>Resist communicating in English. </li></ul><ul><li>Feel uncomfortable interacting in English. </li></ul><ul><li>Have negative stereotypes about native English speakers. </li></ul><ul><li>Not be able to work productively. </li></ul>
  10. 10. When you communicate clearly with non-native English speakers, they will perceive you as friendly, respectful, and efficient.
  11. 11. If you do not communicate clearly, you risk frustrating and alienating non-native speakers, as well as compromising their productivity.
