Background
Every 3rd employee in the Czech Republic has experience with some form of violence in the workplace.
Approximately 480,000 people (12 % of 4 million employees) are victims of psychological violence in
the workplace every year. 88 % of cases are not handled by anyone.
Violence in the workplace is both an ethical and economic problem because the productivity of victims
and witnesses of this pathological behaviour rapidly decreases. In the Czech Republic, this is a
significant and hidden problem. Companies tend to downplay the issue because of reputation risk, lack
of awareness, and social status quo. “It does not happen here; we take care of our employees, their
well-being”. Numbers from research prove the different situation. Mobbing and bossing happen across
organisations - in business, public institutions, academic sphere. Clinical psychologists prove that 25 %
of suicides happen because of workplace problems.
Healthy relations at work are crucial to employee satisfaction, productivity, motivation, and long-term
growth. They are the basis of healthy company culture. Mobbing and bossing lead to fluctuation,
productivity decrease, extra costs across organisation functions.
The Filantia Foundation (launched in September 2020) focuses on creating healthy
workplace relationships, a safe working environment and the prevention of pathological
phenomena (bossing or mobbing). It provides expert diagnostics, advice and guidance to companies
and individuals.

  • 1. Brief | PR Background Every 3rd employee in the Czech Republic has experience with some form of violence in the workplace. Approximately 480,000 people (12 % of 4 million employees) are victims of psychological violence in the workplace every year. 88 % of cases are not handled by anyone. Violence in the workplace is both an ethical and economic problem because the productivity of victims and witnesses of this pathological behaviour rapidly decreases. In the Czech Republic, this is a significant and hidden problem. Companies tend to downplay the issue because of reputation risk, lack of awareness, and social status quo. “It does not happen here; we take care of our employees, their well-being”. Numbers from research prove the different situation. Mobbing and bossing happen across organisations - in business, public institutions, academic sphere. Clinical psychologists prove that 25 % of suicides happen because of workplace problems. Healthy relations at work are crucial to employee satisfaction, productivity, motivation, and long-term growth. They are the basis of healthy company culture. Mobbing and bossing lead to fluctuation, productivity decrease, extra costs across organisation functions.
