2. Biography
Yohanna Gursey is a Dominican Fashion Designer who started working as a Dressmaker in well-known fashion
companies in the Dominican Republic when she was a teenager. Inspired by her passion for fashion, she began her
career at The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, UASD. Soon after, she began assisting designers for their
fashion collections. In the effort to pursue her dream, Yohanna moved to New York in 2002. She is a Fashion Designer
graduated from The Art Institute of New York City, AiNYC. Yohanna has had the opportunity to work for many
prestigious houses in the industry of fashion including Narciso Rodriguez’s Fashion Show, and Ralph Lauren, Ann Tylor,
Etc.
Yohanna is particularly known for her beauty pageants, red carpet gowns, and evenings wear. She has being dressing
many of the winners and contestants from most of the local NY, NJ, and CT beauty pageants, as well as international
beauty pageants such as: Miss Dominican Republic Universe, Miss Canada Universe, Miss Nicaragua World, Miss Haiti
Universe, Miss Haiti International, Miss Hispano-America International, Miss International, Miss USA and others. She
has been part of the official designers of Miss Dominican Republic beauty pageant from 2000-2013.
In 2012, Miss Dominican Republic Universe Organization, MDRU, invited Yohanna as the swimsuit official designer for
the MDRU12. And for the MDRU12 Fashion Show, where she presented her Spring/Summer 2012 swimsuit collection:
Might Night Sun. Wepa Magazine, a fashion and beauty products magazine selected Yohanna as the “Gold Immigrant” of
the July 2012 publication. “NJN” Channel selected Yohanna for a documentary program called “Inspiration for Spanish
Heritage. On September 9, 2014, Yohanna presented “Flamingos” Spring/Summer 2015 collection at the Art
Institute of New York City’s Fashion Show in the Lincoln Center.
