  7. 7. 7 “What is Yoga?” “The Integration will leave you with a healthy, conditioned physical body, for your silent meditations and spiritual rituals. The Yogi will feel enlightened and truly connected, mind, body, and soul.” ~Dr Rev Moore. ~What is Hatha; Chapter Nine “….In the meantime; I plan to rejuvenate, feel great, and lose more weight with Yoga before I meditate.” ~Dr Rev Moore. ~ Yoga Therapy as a Health & Medical Profession; Chapter Nine (of Alternative Therapy Book) The Classic Question, I am asked very often the last few years of my training, “Leslie, What exactly is Yoga?” What is a Yogi? Understanding this question will begin our Chapter and New Yoga familiarity. This chapter may be the longest of the book for many editions. There is so much information and updates to share on the topic of Yoga. First; Yoga is for everyone. All ages, races, sizes, and religions. You may find this listed again in so many words; but the message remains true. Yoga provides so many gifts and rewards. Now; my answer to “What is Yoga?” changes as I deepen my awareness as a Yogi Junior this year 2008. I am always open to learning new paths and deepening my Hatha consciousness and perception for myself, online students, and any local Gym classes I plan to teach near home. From my personal training; in this definition I notice many religions or churches will not understand the full concept; That a Yogi is one who is in “union with God”, any Yoga Individual or trainee will have this definition memorized over time. As I keep myself updated on the latest news, articles, journals, and conversations; I am starting to discover the many conflicts or misinterpretations between Christians and Yogins. Some individuals are acceptable such as the Kriya and Raja fellowship Yogins. However; this does not include many traditional Christian Churches of today. The concept of God being actually apart of Yoga; is very foreign to the average observing non Yogin. Yoga
  8. 8. 8 is not the worship of false Gods or other Idols. Yoga is Universal and the Religion Paths are very sacred. We are all one God, with many Gurus, Masters, Ministers, Monks, Nuns, Healers, and Prophets. I even find it humorous; that some Yogins will quote the definition of Yoga back to you, as if you are brand new to the field yoga. You began to feel small and tiny over time. Why is this? One has to incorporate, master, and view Yoga into every area, core, and inch of your well being, body, mind, and life chronicle. The inner you have to be able to assess this embedded information whenever there is a problem, concern, worry, fear, spiritual unhappiness, chronic sickness, or emotional turmoil. Yoga is not only fitness or religion, but a Psychology of Life. We will discuss this deeper in the Yoga Path Section of this chapter. When I lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan as a Student, I was amazed at the different public perceptions of local Yoga Instructors. I have listed some public statements below for social everyday conversations: 1. They are always happy and joyful 2. Their skin completion is beautiful, they glow 3. They are always financially stable, secure, and wealthy 4. They are so pleasant to be around. After awhile, as I studied my Hatha yoga, I began to wonder (as you will find, many yoga trainees will do. ☺ 1. “Am I a true yogi?” 2. “This is so much information, can I absorb it all? Will I become a Master?” 3. “What is the exact definition of a Yogi?” 4. “Can I become the image that is floating around my city?” During the second sophomore year; my Teacher gave me confidence not to “worry so much”, on mastering the yoga and soaking in information; calling me the “Yoga Scientist” in my lesson feedback, and granting me an A grade or homework credit in the end for my hard work.
  9. 9. 9 I held this in the back of my mind as the months went by, my worry wore off slowly, and I was driven for more information, feeling incomplete until my 3 year of Yoga; now Junior Hatha. It is very true that action does speak louder than words, in many volumes, and boldness. Imagine one must be able to integrate the yogi concepts in their everyday life, health remedies, stress organization, anger management, and embed them deep into their subconsciousness. Keep in mind mastering the Yogi within, takes time, practice, and patience, before you will actually feel secure as a Yoga Guru. A combination of literature, Yoga practice, prayer, and meditation will assist you on your journey within. There are many yoga styles and paths to choose from. Always understand your path thoroughly; before you educate others, the key is to be very humble and open to receive more information. A complete balance is recommended, bouncing from one extreme to another will not make you a master of anything. Students will only appear impatience and confused when searching for the fast path to enlightenment and Yoga. Take your time and stay focused every day. There are many life distractions that can detour the yogi trainee. Some Yogins will explore one path while others many paths, there is no correct way to begin your journey, keep in mind you are in no competitions or race to the finish line, you the yogi are in charge, the whole entire trip. You will begin to heal your life inside and out, your environment, job, and friends may begin to change around you. The key is to remain “Fearless” as a Yogi. I love Yoga and the amazing thing about it, is the age of the practice. Yoga is more than five thousand years old, it is known as a special gift from India to the World. Imagine practicing or performing an art of fitness and healing, thousands of years old, you cannot go wrong, this has proven effective by other generations. Yoga can be viewed as an excellent healing method of self- development, empowerment, divine connection, and self-realization. Yoga is a very unique health science. I know skeptics that love researching the yoga topic just for negative conversations and gossip, no fib or tale. As a Trainer; this teaches me; some individuals still lack true understanding and knowledge of this
  10. 10. 10 fascinating India Art and Practice. Yoga is the only healing system in the world that connects one with a sound mind, a peaceful spirit, and a healthy body, and cures the whole collection of chronic, harmful, traumatic diseases. Yoga assists us on our spiritual journey. It brings us all insight, love, motivation, and harmony to realize our oneness with God. Once you practice yoga for a length of time, you become a fan of its healing and special poses. Each month and year of regular yoga practice will bring individuals instant healing, strength, focus, intuition, clean chakras, and improved health. Yoga is mind, body, and spirit therapy, guaranteed to give rejuvenation, transformation, and relaxation. Understanding the Yoga Paths, Why so many? “Listen to your soul and you will know the way to go” ~Dr Rev Moore As a Yogi of many paths, I can safety say this; Yoga is known as a Power Fitness Exercise and Religion, I find both are true in Yoga Science. This solves the ongoing argument between Yogins and Non-Yogins. You may hear in literature that Yoga is not a religion, however; then you may see Yoga Meditation Churches all over the United States from India. It really depends on your chosen Yoga path or Yoga Style. Each Style provides a form of healing, detox, stress relieve, relaxation, meditation, and problem solving; proven scientific techniques. The Path itself can be spiritual or non spiritual, Meditation or no Meditation, Hinduism or Non-Hinduism, Buddhism or Non-Buddhism, Do you see the picture? We all must keep in mind; the path of Yoga has many founders, teachers, Gurus, and ancient Masters. Each Master or founder has his own Yoga Path. The paths of yoga are endless; (I included a list below in this chapter) this includes both the physical and psychological meditation yoga combined. As a student or trainee, we can freely learn from all the paths available to us. With each path we are advised by any Guru, Healers, and Minister to Master one path at a time. Each path takes deep thought, concentration, research, and meditation on the topic. Once you have studied one yoga for awhile, you are free to move
  11. 11. 11 on or incorporate another; only naturally. There are no limits or special rules to follow, but whatever we put upon ourselves. As Children of God we are limitless and powerful human beings. You are free to learn whatever your comfort level is; for the pursue Yoga. You will find many teachers are naturally a little bit of each path. This is due to the fact that; we will borrow teachings, mantras, symbols, meanings, definitions, and such from the fitness and spiritual Yoga paths. Here’s an example: All Yogins will use the Om mantra in Meditations, Chakra Clearing, Exercise, Fashion, and Home Decorations. This Mantra is a Symbol of God and has been taken from the Hinduism Religion. This Mantra is used in Fitness and Churches world wide very easily, and all Yogins are free to use the symbol. Keep in mind, there is no right or wrong in Yoga, practice at your comfort, pace, and spiritual level. Any Religion and Spiritual Path is welcome to join and incorporate Yoga into their everyday reality, health remedies, and way of life. One reason for Religion conflicts with Yoga I find; is due to location. In some cities and suburbs you can count on your one hand the yoga classes in the area. For example: In Ann Arbor Michigan, Home of Wolverines; Yoga studios are not rare. Beautiful, abundant Teachers are easily accessible; very similar to Ann Arbor’s dance studios. You can even find credited classes at your College Institution. There are always some Religious individuals who will try to put you tightly fit into one Religion category or Yoga description. To describe me, I am A Metaphysical, Gnostic, Hindu, Buddha Christian, in other words; Universal Faith Spirituality. Let’s explore in dept the many blissful and joyful Paths of Yoga. The Yoga Paths can really aid in good health, weight loss, less stress, anger management, and raising your energy vibrations. The purpose of Yoga Paths (styles) is to take you inward, exploring your higher self, personality, life questions, and God consciousness. You become more spiritually aware, alert, and on a Higher God Path, very similar to Christ and Biblical Scriptures. As you journey to other paths, confusion can arise or misconceptions, it is wise to take it slow, to not hurry your knowledge and awareness building. Learning at your own yogi speed, is very helpful, in yoga explorations. Our paths can happen naturally depending on your
  12. 12. 12 source of information and training. At times, one class alone can provide a grand introduction, however; other classes, barely any style information at all. This depends on the class format and teacher style. I have researched and listed the variety of styles and yoga paths below: Some I have practiced, mastered, and others yet to explore as Yoga Instructor and Metaphysician. Yoga is a life long process; we must learn to enjoy each path to enlightenment without speedy competitions. 1. Raja Yoga: The Royal or Realization path, know as the “highest” yoga 2. Karma Yoga: Achieving union with God with right action and service 3. Bhakti Yoga: The path of love, devotion, and Divinity 4. Jnana Yoga: Philosophy, intellect, seeing the mind and personality clear 5. Chakra Yoga: The Yogi heals with their energy chakras and asana poses 6. Tantra Yoga: individuals explore universal consciousness and sexuality 7. Mantra Yoga: The Yogi uses vocal sounds and Words in meditation 8. Kundalini Yoga: Awakening dormant energy in chakras, similar to others 9. Nude Yoga: Nudist Yoga, no clothing, explores freedom, all body types. 10. Kriya Yoga: Meditation practice, builds awareness of the self and mind. 11. Ashtanga Yoga: fitness yoga, one removes muscle and organ toxins. Each yoga path has definitions that are book volumes long, however; this only gives you an idea, visual, and concept of each practice. Some of theses paths will have their own church of Meditation and fellowship such as the Kriya Path, to help you learn about meditation and that particular path of Yoga. I know some of you will get excited and on a yogi mission to learn as many paths as possible. Yes, this is good, I need you to keep that excitement, however; take it slow. Do not overwhelm the senses, intuition, body, and soul’s advancement process. All Yoga paths will take you on a detox journey, your body, mind, and soul will automatically be involved. We all have our natural speed; do not force yourself too much. Motivation, inspiration, love, and
  13. 13. 13 aliveness are good qualities for all Yogins. This keeps us balanced and ready to go, to the next level. When you feel blocked, detoured, at war, lacking support and intuition, keep in mind, Meditation and Prayer time can quiet the mind and guide you back to your yoga path. My present paths are a mixture and integration of the following from Training, Manuals, Books, and CD Courses: 1. Hatha 2. Ashtanga 3. Mantra 4. Chakra 5. Nude 6. Tantra 7. and Raja Those are keeping me busy, vibrant, and full of enthusiasm. There are many Sources to learn each yoga path. A word of wisdom: Stay open to receive. This Yoga Therapy has been researched thoroughly in India, it is known for healing a list of disorders and diseases. The average person viewing yoga from a distance will make jokes and humor naturally. Yoga Practice will appear to be an odd form of healing and fitness. The Fitness area of yoga, takes more notice, than anything. Individuals are usually attracted to yoga for power fitness, weight loss, body toning, and stress relief. Yoga Trainers are multiplying by the year, including myself. However; yoga cannot be mastered within a few months. Some Teachers will train for years before teaching their first yoga class. From a non- Yogin perception, to the Human eye, you will not see right away, what each yoga asanas and posture does for the body. Imagine postures healing, massaging, sending circulation, blood flow, and moving blocks of negative energy, each time you practice. As a Teacher Trainee, I have been cued by my Angels to practice yoga throughout the day, in every way. There is a list of positions for each pain,
  14. 14. 14 tension, and illness you will ever have in life. I was reviewing my yoga book for studies and discovered, I actually have many positions memorized and they are done all throughout my day, without thought. Thank God for my Fitness Angels, this personal realization came in handy for the yoga skeptics. It gave me a new light and understanding as a student teacher, that this art and fitness can be done in many styles, in any way, and any time. Divine Mother God Concepts “Mother God, please clear my path of all road blocks, poverty, ill health, and negativity. Guide and direct me to better pastures and still waters. Provide me with my golden rod, shield, and staff. I will fear any evil and no danger. I will trust in you as my Parent and Best Friend. Please provide me with all of my daily needs, goals, and nourishment. ~Dr Rev Moore. In All religions; there is a Divine Mother God, Mother Saint, and Goddess to retreat to in time of need. This is one source with many faces, one entity with many names, One Beautiful Female God with much protection and strength. Imagine; just as we have a Male and Female Parent to care for us through out our lives, this earth image and likeness is the similar in Heaven. We have a Male and Female parent to care for our life charts, mishaps, errors, fears, worries, whatever issue that goes on during our upbringing and Earth Schooling as their children. They will not always intervene on any situation; this is advanced college for our souls. We have free will as children of God to experience and encounter any and every earth circumstance. When times get rough and your find your energy is low and sorrow is plenty; know that you have not only a father, but a Mother God to take care of your needs on this planet. Picture your body is housing your soul. This soul is very wise and mature in God. Please try not to allow the house’s formal education, and curriculum to get to you. You are allowed tools, new books, heavenly tutors, many teachers, and counselors to assist you on this earth plane. I tell you this, because the Mother God and food for the soul;
  15. 15. 15 has be neglected in many churches and spiritual teachings. However; in the Yoga Religions the Divine Mother or Goddess is mentioned in our Fellowship Readings, Meditations, Prayers, and Discernment. In Yoga; She is called the Divine Mother or by Name. Each religion has their specific name titles for her. Mother God is a very strong and powerful force, connecting with your “Mother” will heal you tremendously on Earth. The Mother God and Goddess is a Beautiful, Wise Woman in all of her imagery and Visualizations. Here is an accurate list of examples below from website: http://www.goddess.ws/ 1. Aphrodite - Greek Goddess of Love and Beauty 2. Artemis - Greek Goddess of Hunting and Vegetation 3. Athena - Greek Goddess of Wisdom and War 4. Ceres - Roman Goddess of Agriculture 5. Demeter - Greek Goddess of Agriculture 6. Devi - Hindu Goddess of Existence 7. Diana - Roman Goddess of Hunting 8. Durga - Hindu Goddess that Destroys Demons 9. Gaia - Greek Goddess as Mother Earth 10. Ha Hai-i Wuhti - Hopi Divine Mother 11. Hecate - Greek Goddess of Magic 12. Ishtar - Babylonian Goddess of War 13. Isis - Egyptian Goddess 14. Juno - Roman Goddess of Women 15. Kali - Hindu Goddess of Liberation 16. Kuan Yin - Buddhist Goddess of Compassion 17. Lakshmi - Hindu Goddess of Prosperity 18. Minerva - Roman Goddess of Arts 19. Mother Mary - Christian Goddess of Compassion
  16. 16. 16 20. Persephone - Greek Goddess of the Underworld 21. Sarasvati - Hindu Goddess of Knowledge and Arts 22. Shakti - Hindu Goddess of Primal Energy 23. Tara - Tibetan Goddess of Compassion 24. Venus - Roman Goddess of Love and Beauty
  17. 17. 17 What is Yoga Therapy? Yoga Therapy is a little different than Private Client and Public Group Classes. The format is offered a little differently than random grouped asanas and class literature. Yoga Therapy is offered to heal numerous health concerns, chronic illnesses, and emotional problems. Yoga Therapy is still pretty recent in discovery. The requirements have been defined in many articles and associations, however; we have a long way to go in development and improvements. Basic Yoga Therapist Requirements *From Research Studies (Theses can be met in classes, workshops, certificates, EST. I learned them by accident in my Training. My Global Certificate was Iyengar based including the Human body fundamentals and muscular system. Ayurveda I learned in Hatha and Home CD Volume Courses. Additional Training is definitely a goal for Yearly Yoga Teacher Hours): 1. Must understand physiology concepts as a Medical Therapist. This includes the study of Nature, the Human Skeleton, Muscle structure, and Internal Organs. 2. *Hint: Leonardo da Vinci is one of the first in history to show achievements in physiology. He is noted as a Great Artist and Scientist. How does this associate with Yoga, you may ask? Still confused? I was too, however; one of his special accomplishments included anatomy, this relates to Yoga Therapy. Yoga is a science, it ties in together. It is humorous but if Leonardo was standing here in spirit form right now, he would desire a whole entire “attention” and course history on his work at the very beginning of this book. However; that is another book entirely. I can feel or empathic his personality traits. He is a firm, no nonsense man, pleasant, calm, full of energy and seriousness, with much drive. It would be on
  18. 18. 18 mission to channel through a medium for a day for an art project and expression. Now, that is all about Leonardo. 3. The Education study of Pathophysiology is necessary. This involves the comprehension of biological and abnormal manifestations of illness and disease in the body. A little different than the healthy studies of physiology. In Research; the discoveries are becoming known, that both Pathophysiology and Physiology are needed to assist The Medical Yoga’s Approval and Accredited status as a Health Profession. 4. Knowledge and training in Ayurveda. 5. Ayurveda Websites: a. http://www.ayurvedacollege.com/ b. http://www.medicinebuddha.com/ c. http://www.mountmadonna.org/ 6. Classes, wisdom, and training in the Human Anatomy and Muscular Function. Including Fitness and cardiovascular health. 7. Training in all Iyengar Yoga Levels. 8. Must have an Understanding and Wisdom of the Benefits and Contradictions of each Asana Pose. Teachers and Practitioners will learn this automatically in training, however; the information is required for Yoga Therapy Sessions. Manuals and Yoga Text books will have this listed under each pose. It is good to say in general the Benefits with any instruction. However; the contradictions must be known for private therapy clients. If you order or review a subscription of The Yoga Journal Magazine; they will list both under each pose. As a Teacher I get free subscriptions to my email address for Yoga articles. 9. Website: http://www.yogajournal.com/ 10. Yoga Therapist must be able to communicate fully, smoothly, fluently, and intellectually with any Health and Family Physician about Medical Yoga with no speech or memory problems. To function at this level takes more
  19. 19. 19 than a course or two, but several and any certifications available; local or distance. 11. In Yoga Magazines you will see workshops, certificates, and student camps, year round to accommodate the expanding field of health, science, spirituality, and therapy courses. Theses travels can be expensive with rarely any financial aid or student loans (I know from experience; Fall 2006 trip to crazy busy New York City. Website: http://www.eomega.org/) but well worth the investment, time, travel, and Teacher effort. Making these trips or short vacations can be rewarding in itself for teacher hours. 12. Here is a Yoga College with Financial Aid assistance. Website: http://www.kripalu.org 13. The travel bill, out of pocket; can be $1,000 to $5,000 or more a trip. This will include your Yoga camp, humble dorm life (sometimes included in tuition), or hotel, round trip travel expenses from your area, food and drinks (sometimes included in tuition.) any emergencies or unexpected expenses on your trip. I advise trainees to take some credit cards with you or your check book. I left my money market checkbook at home for New York City, which was a bad decision. My new money market ATM card had transferred in computer systems before the fall season and was not available the whole entire summer. Western Union was my only back up, in case of severe financial trauma, like having money stuck in Michigan in your planner. 14. Yogi Travel Tip: Do not rely or over use any money market accounts. My market account and interest savings will be for retirement I imagine. I tell you the truth always have another bank for back up. I can hear my sisters reminding this now; as if I did not just write it. Out of my three accounts, I rely on the main book and card that can carry me far. Many Bank systems are joining together these days. 15. Another Yogi Travel tip for training; Dorm or Camp life can exclude cable TV, Computers, high speed Internet, the city luxuries, and Vegetarian Dorm Meals only; no Meat. You enter a reality of Meek, beautiful, Yoga
  20. 20. 20 Living, the old fashion way. Your day begins at 5-6am and you are in the great out doors with your Senior level or Expert Yoga Teacher. 16. The more you train in your local area or Distance Education; the more you will understand the Yoga Language and which workshop to travel too. 17. Example: If you are not familiar with the Yoga styles or Paths, then Applying to a workshop out of state can be complicated and challenging for you as a Yogi trainee. Knowing the Yoga paths in this book alone is a starter point. 18. Interested in Training? Take my advice into consideration. You are well on your way to a wonderful career. In Therapy; there are many teachers that will define themselves as Yoga Therapists already. This is due to their job description, client experience, work ethic, and combined education yoga certificates. However; some may use the term loosely without reading the requirements or research news. Therapists must be careful to know where they stand in operation. We are still an Alternative Therapy companion to Medical care, However; not quite medical in methods or development. That is why disclaimers and conditions are so important to disclose to Therapy clients; until Medical conflicts are cleared in time. That is why you will see me disclose disclaimers and conditions in my book copyrights and online store. There is very few Medical Yoga or Yoga Therapist Professional Degrees established; which we will get into after this section. My personal experience is light Yoga Therapy. I would say I am a freshman Yoga Therapist in training level. My skills are branches from Hatha Yoga and personal research. The job description is a thin line but will shift whenever you have people approaching you for a private home appointment for their chronic back pain, illness, or frequent headache issues. Then as a Teacher, Practitioner, or Healer; you have automatically crossed the thin line into New Grounds: The Therapist Territory. Once you cross over into the Medical Yoga Zone. It
  21. 21. 21 becomes an important complex duty to stay on top of your skills, research, workshops, classes, and any Public New Articles on the topic. Your work load increases as time goes on. When I crossed over into this new healing department, it felt real good to apply my skills and methods for someone’s medical condition. The results are tremendous, when a person’s faith and your yoga education are combined to heal a chronic illness or reoccurring pain element. Yoga Therapists are still facing some challenges from the public and medical field regarding these healing occurrences. Keep in mind the Therapy is still young, fresh, and new. The word is spreading fast, and researchers are working overtime. Some I know for a fact; are working for Free. One state that I find stays up to date and current with all Yoga Therapy, Fitness, and Health and Science news is California. Friends and Family I am sure; wonder about my college plans for Michigan. The next training will be in California by fall 2008, for my Medical Yoga College Commuting.
  22. 22. 22 Yoga Therapy as a Health & Medical Profession? I know many Yoga fanatics, Modern day hippies, and Metaphysicians that thrive on the positive sunny side of all issues. I love the fun energy and law of attraction; However, I must still announce and acknowledge both sides of the coin here. This protects not only the Yoga Practitioner but the client or patient as well. Some issues are hard to handle but you must acknowledge their existence. Similar to Christianity; in the times of 2007 we must stay aware of evil and devil attempts to control our mind, body, and emotions. This universal truth is included in many religions with different vocabulary, instructions, and church terms. We are beyond the times of Adam and Eve; knowledge is now power and apart of our DNA, Structure, and Human Survival. We have to stay aware and awake of all sides of the story and any premonition, or upcoming evils that may exist. Jesus teaches us this in the New Testament (New Covenant.) “Listen, I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. So be as smart as snakes and as innocent as doves…” ~Matthew 10:16 Keep in mind; the issues do not have to be apart of your positive and healing belief system, but living in Wonderland or cloud nine can really damage your reputation. I tell you this; please keep and maintain a perfect balance. The balance is advised in all Yoga Paths; physical and non physical. Some of you may still be confused? I get this often; like a Guru Master to at student Yogi. “I am confused, I don’t get it Leslie?” So I will word It another way; do not go from one extreme to another in reality shifts. Ground yourself and meditate. You can do this in any religion with prayer and devotion time.
  23. 23. 23 Therefore I finally say this; things are not always peaches and cream, chicken and noodle, apples and pie. I joke with seriousness; that there is another side to Yoga. There are always; always conflicts and arguments for Therapists to keep in mind. Example: there is an ongoing argument that Yoga is not and should not ever be a Health Care Profession. Although this process has informally already begun, approved, and accredited in the warmer climate states; there are other ways of making Yoga an official Medical Profession. The Medical Benefits of yoga are becoming more widely known and available. Many people are making yoga class part of their weekly agendas, office detox, spiritual practice, and de-stressing remedies. Fitness Yoga practice is becoming recognized by the medical community as a new potential form of physical, mental, and emotional therapy. According to new research; Insurance companies are now beginning to include yoga as an alternative medicine in their coverage plans. The health industry is now assisting in the form of Medical Yoga. To be a working Yoga Therapist, one must incorporate knowledge of the Human Anatomy, Muscular Function, Physiology, and Pathophysiology Education Departments in their skills and client sessions. This is required of all Health Professionals, therefore; Yoga Therapist will have to follow the same formal medical path as other Physicians. When a patient comes to a Yoga Therapist titled practitioner for help and assistance; they have to be very wise and fluent in providing the proper Diagnosis. In the far future; there have been discussions of Creating a Yoga Therapy Board of Examiners or some formal testing to achieve a Medical License in Yoga Therapy. We have already begun to develop schooling and requirements for Yoga Therapist, therefore; I assume this testing will blend in with patient care. We cannot always predict clearly the future; not even in psychic science. As Psychics, we can tune in to the different paths based on the present “here and now.” Nothing is set in stone, all predictions are changeable realities. We can only accept the present and go with the flow of events and yoga news.
  24. 24. 24 In my premonition Analysis *Based on the here and now of 2007: I envision this formal testing can possibly ruin many Yoga therapists and change the course of Medicine completely. The Yogins are very sensitive to any thing coming against the nature of Yoga; an ancient treasure from God and India. There are so many interpretations and opinions of Yoga, we can only hope and dream for the very best outcome for our generations and younger Yogins to be. May the future generations be strong and balanced in their chakra energy centers, especially the Manipura Fire Chakra. A Yogi hint: that in using our inner power, solar plexus, and God energy, we cannot go wrong. In the meantime; I plan to rejuvenate, feel great, and lose more weight with Yoga before I meditate. What is Hatha Yoga? I needed to include a special section for Hatha. In some ways; Hatha is very similar to Iyengar in training. This depends greatly on your Teacher methods; taught in group settings. Hatha became my Primary Yoga after 2 College years of dedication and hard work. Hard work for myself, health concerns, stress levels in school, and GPA (of course; I was apart of the Phi Theta Kappa, Beta Gamma Honors Society. A bad grade was completely out of the question. That is stress right there on any honor student.) My first Yoga I ever learned was “Power, Fitness” Yoga by Accident at home. I would practice in College for a variety of wellness benefits between campus classes. The First Group class I ever took and enjoyed was Classical Hatha Yoga and Yoga Psychology. Hatha is a yoga of balance, gentleness, strength, fitness, and awakening energy. Some individuals of the Spiritual and Meditation Yoga will misunderstand the physical styles. Sorry, to say; this happens very easily due to America today. In the Hip, growing field of personal trainers, the modern yoga instructor may not see or have been taught; the importance of all Hatha balancing elements. Some are investing hundreds of dollars to not get the full picture of yoga training. Therefore; a true yoga trainee must invest another $500.00 to $1000.00 a year, to get the complete
  25. 25. 25 understanding and yoga experience. A budget below that and you are lucky. A Yoga Instructor education cost, will then add up to a secular bachelors or master degree in time. It is up to the individual, Personal Trainer, what path they would like to pursue in Yoga. Eventually, one can become accredited for every independent class, workshop, and experience, if documented at home. Associations will deem you Expert of Grand Parent Yogi for your many accomplishments. Sad, American image is based on thin bodies, popular media, yoga fashion, and star appearance of physical yoga. No worries, The Yoga Teachers are slowly taking charge, and bringing alive the ancient India Traditions. Now you can visualize why naturally, Yoga Spiritualist cannot imagine anything more than the physical poses. Surprising; Hatha is the perfect blend of asanas, postures, breathing, meditation, and relaxation exercises. Its purpose is to blend and balance both the Spiritual and Physical experience together as one. Hatha is also known as Basic or Classical yoga, in conversation or physical practice terms. Many other styles are actual branches from the Hatha Path. Again; the word Yoga means union with God; imagine this union being the foundation of your Home Hatha practice. When in Physical or fitness yoga, some students may forget the importance of the breathing and meditation elements of this style. Honestly; the Hatha Yogi is left empty, like a growing void; without including all of the elements connected to this Path or style. To some the asana practice alone is enough work. Asana in Yoga Sanskrit means, comfortable, or stable pose. Asanas are actually easy to do. Non Yogins will view your practice and say, “Oh that looks so easy!” Yes this is actually true. Any Person, body type, and age can practice physical yoga. In Hatha, The asanas begin very basic, you learn a series of stretches, joint work, relaxation, facial massages, and warm ups before entering the fire core element of asana practice. Imagine, not the look of yoga, but the benefits. Asanas are good for toning the muscles, strengthening the body, disciplining the mind, and purifying your organs. A Yoga Master will stay youthful and illness free, after years of well rounded, yoga practice. Many Healers, Practitioners, and Masters will also use Hatha Yoga, to give Yoga Therapy also called Medical Yoga for ill or Rehab clients. (You readers got the
  26. 26. 26 grand introduction to Medical Yoga Requirements.) This is why the Yogi Trainee must master his or her inner fire and energy source to grow in Yoga practice; you will need bolts of energy for your weekly schedule. Fellow Yogins, the blend itself, will complete each other; we recharge and feel renewed, satisfied, and rejuvenated after the full integration process of Hatha. The Integration will leave you with a healthy, conditioned physical body, for your silent meditations and spiritual rituals. The Yogi will feel enlightened and truly connected, mind, body, and soul. Some teachers will include the chakra centers and mantras in their Hatha practice; it is all based on the individual Practitioners and time allowance in class schedules. This will also give balance and energy clearing to Hatha Yoga. Competition and Ego, in Yoga Practice To review Yoga Competition, I feel it is silly and unnecessary. Some people will do this naturally; out of personal defense or self esteem. Competition is not recommended in Yoga, however; in a group of Many Experts and Certified Teachers, they can do the exact opposite. It is humorous to me; after you show your point of view and studies on a yoga topic or style, some are asking can they teach at your yoga studio, to make it up to you (“There’s no studio, but thanks” ☺). There seems to be a lot of growing myths, to yoga practice in America today. Yoga is not made up of only complex postures and asanas, headstands or arm balances. Even in those Head Stands, there are several variations any person can achieve, without killing themselves. I am shocked these inverted variations are not taught everywhere, however; very useful steps. Students always remember this; Yoga is for all ages, cultures, religions, and body types. However; I speak as an Iyengar and Hatha style Teacher. The training of these two paths provides specific instructions. The Yoga Therapy list is endless; I will give you a general list for your introduction. These are the most common disorders mentioned in Yoga. This
