But most of people ignore the fact that being asuccessful college student goes beyond intelligence and hard work. There are several usefulhabits which a college student has to follow so that they can positively approach theireducation and be successful and achieve their academic goals and so have a prosperous life.To begin with, College students should be “professional” in their educational context. They should consider college or university as a place of “work” from which they get theirliving. In other words, they should be serious enough and avoid being absent for a reason ornot. In case of emergency or outside-of-our-control factors, students are to professionallyinform their instructors preferably beforehand. Besides, in case of missing a class, studentsshould copy the notes and do the assignments required before the upcoming class. Beingprofessional, also means to come to classes early or at least on time. Moreover, for collegestudents to be able to come early for classes in particular morning classes, they have to takegood care of themselves physically and emotionally as well. Regarding being physically good, students should avoid certain bad eating habits like eating fast-food, junk food or eating toomuch food. They should also go on certain healthy balanced diets if the need be. Besides, they should practice sport. They should also get enough sleep at night, and this means goingto bed early so that they can wake up early just like what the English proverbs says: “early tobed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”. As for being emotionally good, students have to possess strong personalities and being strong enough to go through allchallenges and ups and downs that college life has. They are also to be wise enough not toget involved in relationships that would negatively affect their learning process or makethem get distracted and drag them down while they should get focused on their studies.Second, college students should be well organized and committed to their studies, assignments and exams. They should come to class well prepared and equipped with thelearning materials needed for each class such textbooks, pens, copy-books, reference books,notebooks/net books, …etc. They have also to be committed to do every homework they areassigned to. So, they should get their assignments done and submit it in due time. Thiswould not be possible to happen unless they manage their time properly. Furthermore, for

If they happen to score low marks in a test or exam, theyare to self-evaluate and reflect upon the factors which led to such bad results. They shouldget a lesson out of it and should not be pessimistic about the future. On the contrary, theyshould be motivated to improve their performance by strengthening their weaknesses andfilling their learning gaps for the coming tests and exams. Finally, college students should be respectful to their instructors and classmates andabide by the college rules. For learning to take place, there should be a mutual teacher-student and student-student respect. So, students should not disturb the instructor and theirclassmates by avoiding showing up late, using cell-phones, text-messaging, personal side-talks…etc. Besides, the classroom is not only a space where people acquire knowledge andget educated, but also a place of shared values. Respect is a must and a redline whicheverybody should not cross within the four walls of the classroom. Moving away from thelatter to a larger scope, college students must respect the college rules and abide by them.No one is above the law, so are not the student! College rules facilitate the educationalsystem process and guarantee its continuity and equality. Therefore, to make the rules work, everybody should respect them.It seems likely that to be a successful college student is not an easy way to go.Patience, determination, seriousness and willingness are key factors every college studentshould possess to make a better use of the useful effective study habits stated above. For acollege student, success is an umbrella term that requires all those habits to be consideredseriously. Making good use of such habits pays off and paves the way to fruitful results;acquiring academic skills, enriching one’s knowledge and getting a good job, higher gradesand a good career, to name but a few.
