    1. 1. An Internationally Minded School for a Globalised World
    2. 2. Defining Internationally Minded School A distinct type of institution that promotes a philosophy of unity, tolerance and understanding. Students emerge from internationally minded schools as young adults ready to participate in an increasingly globalised and multi-cultural world. Internationally Minded Schools These type of institutions encourage students to strengthen their understanding of their own cultural identity while fostering acceptance of others cultures.
    3. 3. The Role of Curriculum The International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme has also been developed as a way for schools around the world to adhere to a certain academic standard, as a way of globally accepted curriculum. These schools integrate languages, character development and cultural experiences into their curricula at all levels While offering students access to the global standard of education that is the IB Curriculum, internationally minded schools go above and beyond by incorporating more than just the criteria of the IB programme into their curriculums.
    4. 4. Multilingual and Multicultural Internationally minded schools place strong emphasis on continuous language learning and development. These schools provide the necessary support for students as they continue to develop their mother tongue and the acquisition of another language (usually the host country’s language). Internationally minded schools strive to provide the best possible learning structure to ensure a truly bilingual and bicultural learning experience. Most international schools will encourage their students to become bilingual through a combination of language classes and cultural activities.
    5. 5. Global Issues and Outlooks These internationally minded schools also seek to emphasise current global issues, giving students the opportunity to learn about issues or significance while developing international mindsets which will help them succeed in our increasingly globalised world. Engaging with these issues can help students to establish a strong sense of cultural identity, and also a deeper understanding of other peoples, cultures, countries and customs. By devoting time, resources and energy to engaging with these issues, internationally minded schools are creating the great minds of tomorrow.
    6. 6. YCIS Beijing: Bringing It All Together YCIS Beijing embodies the ideals and virtues of “internationally minded schools” through its intensive IB programme, bilingual curriculum and emphasis on educating globally minded students. The IB programme offered at YCIS has been thoroughly integrated with off-campus learning experiences, service learning through its “World Classroom” programme and the deep cultural diversity of its school community, which enriches the learning of their students. YCIS develops their students from an early age in stimulating settings to speak and learn in both languages. Internationally minded schools don’t restrict the learning of languages just to the classroom, but encourage their students to practice with their peers and other members of their community. As a result, YCIS graduates find themselves equipped with impeccable languages skills, strong moral characters and acute awareness of cultural differences and tolerance.
