BI Solutions sometimes are required to do more than analyzing data, you can use that information to act upon the outside world and close the loop. During this presentation we will see how to use Sparkl, a plugin that has just been released, enabling to easily create screens that allow you to take actions. During this demo the Mongo DB plugin from Pentaho will be leveraged to show how we can even integrate with NoSQL databases.

Sparkl: End to End integration with Pentaho

  1. 1. v Sparkl Pentaho App Builder
  2. 2. Content v MongoDB Dashboard We want to be able to present it We want more of that Sparkl / Pentaho App Builder Supported through services Increasing engagement through community Presenting them: Marketplace Some will be deprecated, some will be popularity
  3. 3. MongoDB Dashboard v It was a success case. Leveraged the capabilities of Pentaho back-end with the sex and sizzle of Ctools dashboards.
  4. 4. We want to be able to present it V-neck The customer got extremely excited with that and wants more of this.
  5. 5. We want more of that V-neck We’ll be opening new markets and giving a step towards Operational Analytics, the perceived next big thing after big data. m or St ra Ca nd sa s a Re ou Cl Im la pa a r de e Tim l
  6. 6. Sparkl / Pentaho App Builder V-neck Sparkl, or Pentaho App Builder, is a plugin creator instrument that sits on 2 major cornerstones: Ctools and PDI, aiming to leverage as much as possible of our existing stack. Anyone familiar with those tools will be able to build plugins, facilitating adoption. ols o Ct e K ttl e
  7. 7. Supported through services V-neck Sparkl and Sparkl apps will, at the current stage, be supported by services entirely, not impacting Support nor Engineering. t or p y it n p su u m m Co t or p p c vi r Se es su t p Re g a ul r su r po
  8. 8. Increasing engagement through community V-neck By giving Sparkl to the community, we'll promote the creation of new content, contributing for a fitter, happier, more productive Pentaho ecosystem. ity un m m Co m r to S m Co ra nd a ss Ca M l ea R g on B oD e Tim a er d lou C m Co ala p Im m Co m Co ity un m ity un m ity un m ity un m
  9. 9. Presenting them: Marketplace V-neck Once we have several different applications, making them available to users becomes a fundamental step. Marketplace is the answer for that, providing visibility to the work done and a motivation for more community engagement. ity un m m Co m r to S m Co ra nd a ss Ca M l ea R g on B oD e Tim a er d lou C m Co ala p Im m Co m Co ity un m ity un m ity un m ity un m
  10. 10. Some will be deprecated, some will be popular V-neck Some will be deprecated, while others may be so popular that we to include them in the product. And we need to be prepared for that. Since it's contained functionality, it's easier to test and QA. Since it's based on well controlled technologies, it's easier to support. And we'd be building a better product based out of successful use cases. t r po ty ni u p su m om C t or p p v r Se e ic s su t l ar R u eg s or p up
  11. 11. Some will be deprecated, some will be popular V-neck One of the challenges we would need to face would be to embrace Ctools to the list of supported software, as it's the visual engine for both Sparkl and The Art of the Possible. We already have that challenge now.
