Fairbnb is a platform cooperative that aims to be better for travelers, hosts, and communities compared to other platforms like Airbnb. It was created to reduce the negative externalities of short-term rentals on cities while generating positive social and environmental impacts. Fairbnb operates using a simple business model where 7.5% of each transaction goes to a community project selected by the traveler and 7.5% goes to running the platform. The goal is for Fairbnb to capture 5% of the short-term rental market share by 2025 and redistribute 200 million euros annually to community projects.
