Before…
 In modern societies after WW2 when most
women birthed in hospital were left alone during
labor and delivery.
 Since the 1970s, fathers have been permitted to
be with their partner during labour and delivery in
hospital.
 Women often wanted their husbands/someone to
come and help them cope with natural occurring
pain of labor.
 It took a while longer for fathers to be permitted
into a cesarean delivery.
 Now most fathers will be with their birthing partner

Fathers are expected to “do
something”
 Everyone expects you to know what to do … Do you?
Probably not.
 But no one has taught you how to help a woman give
birth …No one has taught women to birth either so she
can’t help you.
 Just because only women give birth doesn’t mean they
know how … Did you instinctively know how to be a
good lover just because you were randy?
 Birthing Better skills were developed by hundreds of
fathers who wanted to know what to do, when to do and
how to do.
 Skills are easy to learn and actually fun and don’t take
too much time.

 Fathers were expected to have taken a skills-
based childbirth education class such as Lamaze
