Sermon bpsdac-july 30,2011

  1. 1. TOPIC:Message #1: Satan-Proofing Your Mind As Stewardsin the Last DaysSongs: “Take my life and let it be.” (330) “I’m pressing on the upward way.” (625)Scripture: Philippians 2:5-8.STORY:Tsunami coming! Huts had to be set on fire in orderto save the persons that were in the valley working.Comments:Nothing was wrong with them working; they were workinghard to feed their families. But because they were down inthe valley – they were not on high ground – they could notsee the tsunami coming! However, they were in gravedanger and did not know it! (Pun intended) There arepeople on the hill (on the walls of Zion!) that can see thedanger; they see the destruction that is coming – they cansee death coming; the tsunami is ready to sweep away theBrethren, the friends, the loved ones; it’s a DESPERATESTUATION! Desperate times needs desperate measures:If there’s fire in a building and people are in danger youdon’t form a committee and them bring a recommendationto ask for a VOTE?Wrong time for that! You get autocratic and authoritarian –It’s time to start shouting: FIRE! FIRE! Get out! Move it!Out!
  2. 2. Hebrew 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack ofknowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I willalso reject thee,…”MUSIC:The Lure of Popular Music.--I feel alarmed as I witnesseverywhere the frivolity of young men and young womenwho profess to believe the truth. God does not seem to bein their thoughts. Their minds are filled with nonsense. Theirconversation is only empty, vain talk. They have a keen earfor music, and Satan knows what organs to excite toanimate, engross, and charm the mind so that Christ is notdesired. The spiritual longings of the soul for divineknowledge, for a growth in grace, are wanting. {AH 407.3}I was shown that the youth must take a higher stand andmake the word of God the man of their counsel and theirguide. Solemn responsibilities rest upon the young, (408)which they lightly regard. The introduction of music intotheir homes, instead of inciting to holiness and spirituality,has been the means of diverting their minds from the truth.Frivolous songs and the popular sheet music of the dayseem congenial to their taste. The instruments of musichave taken time which should have been devoted to prayer.Music, when not abused, is a great blessing; but when putto a wrong use, it is a terrible curse. It excites, but does notimpart that strength and courage which the Christian canfind only at the throne of grace while humbly making knownhis wants and, with strong cries and tears, pleading forheavenly strength to be fortified against the powerful
  3. 3. temptations of the evil one. Satan is leading the youngcaptive. Oh, what can I say to lead them to break his powerof infatuation! He is a skillful charmer luring them on toperdition. {AH 407.4}A Word on Rock / Reggae / Hip-hop / Country / Heavy Metal/ New Age / Contemporary - MusicBook: He Came to Set the Captives Free, by RebeccaBrown, M.D., c. 1992.Page 63, par. 1:“It was at this time that I met many of the well known rockmusic stars. They all signed contracts with satan in returnfor fame and fortune. The evolution of rock music in theU.S. was carefully planned by satan and carried out by hisservants step by step.”Page 69, par. 1:“Also, in recent years, especially on the West Coast, largenumbers of young people are becoming involved insatanism through rock music, occultic role-playing fantasygames and, of course, by much individual recruitment.”(John Lomacang, et al) CD’s and DVD’s – They pray overthem in the coven of the studio where they gather 13witches and warlocks; they pray for demons to accompanythem to wherever they are taken when they are bought(Our homes? Our bedrooms? Our living rooms? In ourchurch?)
  4. 4. Galatians 6:7: Be not deceived; God is not mocked: forwhatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 6:8 Forhe that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption;but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap lifeeverlasting. 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for indue season we shall reap, if we faint not.Isaiah 59:19: So shall they fear the name of the LORDfrom the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun.When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of theLORD shall lift up a standard against him.(Principles: principles or values that govern a personsbehavior. level of quality accepted as norm: a level ofquality or excellence that is accepted as the norm or bywhich actual attainments are judged (often used in theplural) How is that going to happen in our lives when we have nostandards! Anything goes, 24-six…and then we pay dues onSabbath (OR Sunday) (Usually Part-day). Lord, help us!THE WAY WE CAN BE GOOD STEWARDS IS TO GIVE OURENTIRE BEING TO GOD:Romans 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yieldyourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom yeobey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience untorighteousness?
  5. 5. How can we, as Stewards of God’s gifts, continue to look atthe wrong things, speak idleness and garbage all week; howcan we touch the wrong “stuff”, taste the wrong “stuff”,sniff the wrong “stuff” – and expect not to reap the“benefits”?We need to stop separating our “church life” fromour work life, our school life, our during the weeklife…TO BE A GOOD STEWARD MEANS TO BE A GOODCHRISTIAN!Back in the day “Christian” meant something – it meant thatyou were marked for death – it was like a curse…Many,many Christians died for because of their loyalty to Christ.Today, there is hardly any Christ left in “Christian”; for someso called Christians today, if satan was a fly and God gavethem a fly-swatter they couldn’t swat him – ‘cause theyhave become faith-less, mind-less and power-lessbecause they have taken the basics out of their lives – Thebasics - like PRAYER, WITNESSING, FAMILY WORSHIP,STUDYING GOD’S WORDS! (Please, take it seriously, it’swhat God is saying to you/me/us!) FASTING AND SINGINGPURE, UPLIFTING SONGS.1. A Power to Win Souls.--There is great pathos and musicin the human voice, and if the learner will make determinedefforts, he will acquire habits of talking and singing that willbe to him a power to win souls to Christ.--Manuscript 22,1886. {Ev 504.2}
  6. 6. 2. Bearing a Special Message in Song.--There are those whohave a special gift of song, and there are times when aspecial message is borne by one singing alone or by severaluniting in song. But the singing is seldom to be done by afew. The ability to sing is a talent of influence, which Goddesires all to cultivate and use to His names glory.--Testimonies, vol. 7, pp. 115, 116. (1902) {Ev 504.3}3. Attractiveness of the Human Voice.--The humanvoice that sings the music of God from a heart filled withgratitude and thanksgiving is far more pleasing to Him thanthe melody of all the musical instruments ever invented byhuman-hands. Letter2c,1892.507 {Ev 506.4}WE MUST BE GOOD STEWARDS OF OUR THOUGHTS:Impure Thoughts Lead to Impure Actions.--This is anage when corruption is teeming everywhere. The lust ofthe eye and corrupt passions are aroused by beholdingand by reading. The heart is corrupted through theimagination. The mind takes pleasure in contemplatingscenes which awaken the lower and baser passions. Thesevile images, seen through defiled imagination, corrupt themorals and prepare the deluded, infatuated beings to giveloose rein to lustful passions. Then follow sins and crimeswhich drag beings formed in the image of God down to alevel with the beasts, sinking them at last in perdition. {AH408.1}
  7. 7. WE ARE TO BE GOOD STEWARDS OF WHAT WE SEE.I Will See No Wicked Thing: Parents must exerciseunceasing watchfulness, that their children be not lost toGod. The vows of David, recorded in the 101st (409) Psalm,should be the vows of all upon whom rest theresponsibilities of guarding the influences of the home. Thepsalmist declares: "I will set no wicked thing beforemine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shallnot cleave to me. A froward heart shall depart from me: Iwill not know a wicked person. Whoso privily slanderethhis neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an highlook and a proud heart will not I suffer.He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house:he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight."THE POSITIVES:Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that theymay dwell with me: he that walketh in a perfect way, heshall serve me. {AH 408.2}(Counsel from the servant of the Lord) Say firmly:(1) "I will not spend precious moments in reading thatwhich will be of no profit to me, and which only unfits me tobe of service to others.(2) I will devote my time and my thoughts to acquiring afitness for Gods service.
  8. 8. (3) I will close my eyes to frivolous and sinful things. Myears are the Lords, and I will not listen to the subtlereasoning of the enemy.(4) My voice shall not in any way be subject to a will that isnot under the influence of the Spirit of God.(5) My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and everypower of my being shall be consecrated to worthy pursuits."{AH 409.1} PRAISE THE LORD!!! SONG (S)SOLUTION (CONTINUING):(1) Romans 12:1: I beseech you therefore, brethren, bythe mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a livingsacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] yourreasonable service. 12:2 And be not conformed to thisworld: but be ye transformed by the renewing ofyour mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, andacceptable, and perfect, will of God.(2) Romans 13:11: And that, knowing the time, that now[it is] high time to awake out of sleep: for now [is] oursalvation nearer than when we believed. 13:12 The night isfar spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off theworks of darkness, and let us put on the armour oflight. 13:13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in
  9. 9. rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering andwantonness, not in strife and envying. 13:14 But put ye onthe Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for theflesh, to [fulfil] the lusts [thereof]. Hallelujah!!!(3) 5T Chap. 25 p. 217: I am filled with sadness when I think of our condition as apeople. (Lord, help us!) The Lord has not closed heaven to us, but our own courseof continual backsliding has separated us from God. (Lord,help us!) Pride, covetousness, and love of the world have lived in theheart without fear of banishment or condemnation. Grievousand presumptuous sins have dwelt among us. (Lord, helpus!) And yet the general opinion is that the church is flourishingand that peace and spiritual prosperity are in all herborders. (Lord, help us!) {5T 217.1} The church has turned back from following Christ herLeader and is steadily retreating toward Egypt. (Lord, helpus!) Yet few are alarmed or astonished at their want of spiritualpower. (Lord, help us!)
  10. 10. Doubt, and even disbelief of the testimonies of the Spirit ofGod, is leavening our churches everywhere. Satan wouldhave it thus. Ministers who preach self instead of Christwould have it thus. (Lord, help us!) The testimonies are unread and unappreciated.(Lord, help us!) God has spoken to you. Light has been shining from Hisword and from the testimonies, and both have been slightedand disregarded. (Lord, help us!) The result is apparent in the lack of purity and devotionand earnest faith among us. (Lord, help us!) {5T 217.2}Romans 14:12 So then every one of us shall give accountof himself to God. 14:13 Let us not therefore judge oneanother any more: but judge this rather, that no man put astumblingblock or an occasion to fall in [his] brothers way.(4) Exodus 32:26 Then Moses stood in the gate of thecamp, and said, Who [is] on the LORDS side? [let himcome] unto me. And all the sons of Levi gatheredthemselves together unto him. (Whose side are you ontoday? Will you be as one of the sons of Levi today? Instanding on the Lord’s side?)(5) BE LIKE JESUS:Luke 22:42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove thiscup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
  11. 11. Matthew 26:39 And he went a little farther, and fell on hisface, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, letthis cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but asthou [wilt].Mark 14:36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things [are]possible unto thee; take away this cup from me:nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.(Paul) Phil. 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was alsoin Christ Jesus: 2:6 Who, being in the form of God,thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 2:7 But madehimself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of aservant, and was made in the likeness of men: 2:8 Andbeing found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, andbecame obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.WHO IS ON THE LORD’S SIDE?May God help us!PRAYER TO CLOSE.
