  1. 1. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CHEMICAL WEATHERING AND PHYSICAL WEATHERING W r i t t e n b y C h r i s t o p h e r N o b l e M r s . S a m p l e s s c i e n c e c l a s s 5 t h p e r i o d
  2. 2. VOCABULARY WORDS Weathering When a destructive force breaks up and wears away rocks on Earth's surface through physical and chemical change Physical Weathering Breaks rock down through physical change, no chemical change Chemical Weathering Breaks rocks down through chemical change, needs water, creates particles that have a different mineral composition
  3. 3. Types of rock that are physical and chemical weathering
  4. 4. WEATHERING EROSION MUSIC VIDEO by mr.parr https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2311yO5op Vk
  5. 5. Physical weathering Frost weathering is a collective term for several mechanical weathering processes induced by stresses created by the freezing of water into ice.
  6. 6. Chemical weathering The erosion or disintegration of rocks, building materials, etc., caused by chemical reactions (chiefly with water and substances dissolved in it) rather than by mechanical processes.
  7. 7. Chemical and physical weathering Weathering processes crack, wear away, and weaken rocks. Over time, it may cause large changes to the landscape. Physical and chemical weathering degrade rocks in different ways. While physical weathering breaks down a rock's physical structure, chemical weathering alters a rock's chemical composition. Physical weathering works with mechanical forces, such as friction and impact, while chemical weathering takes place at the molecular level with the exchange of ions and cations.
  8. 8. this is a chemical and weathering video two minutes long https://www.brainpop.com/science/earthsystem/erosion/
  9. 9. THIS IS MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE ROCKS PHYSICAL WEATHERING, ALSO KNOWN AS MECHANICAL WEATHERING, IS THE CLASS OF PROCESSES THAT CAUSES THE DISINTEGRATION OF ROCKS WITHOUT CHEMICAL CHANGE. THE PRIMARY PROCESS IN PHYSICAL WEATHERING IS ABRASION (THE PROCESS BY WHICH CLASTS AND OTHER PARTICLES ARE REDUCED IN SIZE).
  10. 10. THE END HAVE ANY QUESTION PLEASE ASK THEM NOW I AM ONLY TAKING 3 QUESTION BECAUSE OF TIME
