The role of the dementia champion: iSPACE Dementia Friendly GP Practices

  1. 1. THE ROLE OF THE DEMENTIA CHAMPION iSPACE – Dementia Friendly GP Practices 1. Keep up to date with the NICE guidelines : - if non clinician, alert GPs to updates. 2. Ensure that all new employees have seen the Dementia Awareness training presentation (attached) 3. Work with practice managers to complete audit toolkit (attached) 4. Ensure that PPG and Carer’s Groups are informed about work being carried out 5. Explore local services for people with dementia and their carers and ensure that there is plenty of information on offer at the surgery and keep up-to-date. 6. Keep up to date information on dementia in the waiting room (e.g. Alzheimer's “Living with Dementia”, how to prevent dementia, power of attorney) 7. Keep dementia notice-boards up to date 8. Take responsibility for, or support, any dementia related activities which are being held at the surgery (i.e. local coffee-mornings, educational talks, carer’s information, Dementia Friends information sessions etc) 9. Arrange regular meetings with other Champions in the area and share “best practice”. 10. Use role as part of Personal Development plan – attend appropriate training/conferences.
