2. Social networks thrive on shares — their form of currency. Getting more shares for
content grows businesses through better engagement. Among the various social media
platforms, one network can give brands the most number of content shares.
According to Search Engine Journal’s survey, Twitter has the most used social share
button. Facebook came in second place (35% from SEOs using social shares) while
Buffer and e-mail/SMS were at the bottom of the list. While it’s no surprise Facebook
and Twitter are at the top of the list, some experts wonder how the latter overcame
the former.
Facebook Vs. Twitter
With over 1.7 billion active users, Facebook has the largest user base. Twitter, on the
other hand, only thrives on 313 million active monthly users. Despite the numbers,
Twitter continues to lead the pack.
3. The social network’s text-based stream offers easier content production. Combining this
with Twitter’s real-time feel encourages more businesses to post on the site. Brands can
also add their own commentary to accompany the link they post. Hashtags, which are
major components of the site, also guarantee better traffic and more engagement. The
Tweet button is enough for more consumer value.
Facebook’s mix of image, video, and text platform is too time-consuming for content.
The site’s share button also burdens the post with necessary images, text, or videos. It
makes sharing easier, but users would not feel they add value to the shared content.
Goodbye Email and Buffer?
Prior to the existence of social sites, email used to be the top content sharing platform.
The popularity of Twitter and Facebook, however, has surpassed its popularity. Still,
there are more ways to use email to share content and drive better results (e.g., email
marketing and automated workflows).
4. Buffer, on the other hand, has more than 2 million users — just a fraction of Twitter
and Facebook’s user base. Brands do not discount this platform just yet due to its
capability to boost social shares.
Currently, Twitter holds the top spot due to its promises of better engagement. The
immediate future, however, might change the game due to the changing nature of
social media.
