  3. 3. Basic Missile Aerodynamics Target AudienceThe Basic Missile Aerodynamics (BMA) short course is intended for theaerospace professional seeking expert instruction in the fundamentals ofmissile aerodynamics as applied to airframe design, analysis and test. Coursematerial has direct application across a broad spectrum of missile typesincluding tactical missiles, ballistic missiles, launch vehicles, sounding rocketsand projectiles. The goal of the course is to help you become moreknowledgeable, confident and competent in matters relating to missileaerodynamics. Among those who will benefit from attending BMA are: aerodynamics engineers missile defense technologists flight test engineers operations research analysts airframe designers flight controls specialists launch vehicle designers flight simulation specialists missile systems engineers systems engineers wind tunnel test engineers program managers Questions Regarding the BMA Course? 4. 4. Basic Missile Aerodynamics What You Will LearnThe Basic Missile Aerodynamics (BMA) short course provides you with afocused training experience in the aerodynamics of tactical missiles, ballisticmissiles, launch vehicles, sounding rockets and projectiles. You will learn thetenets of basic wing, canard and tail aerodynamic controls. The rudiments ofpropulsive thrust vector controls are presented as well. Designing for lowdrag, high maneuverability and favorable stability and control characteristicsis an integral part of the course. You will learn about vehicle 6‐DOFaerodynamic force and moment models, atmospheric models and massproperty models. The vital interrelationship among the disciplines of windtunnel testing, flight simulation and flight testing is clearly stressed. TheBMA course of study includes the following topics: Coordinate Systems Stability and Control Wing Control Maneuverability Canard Control Aerodynamic Drag Tail Control Aerodynamic Damping Thrust Vector Control Atmospheric Models Component Airloads Jet Interaction Effects 6‐DOF Aero Models Store Separation Power‐Off Base Drag Dynamic Stability Power‐On Base Drag Control Panel Loads Plume Effects Stage Separation Wind Tunnel Testing Aerodynamic Heating Flight Testing Flight Simulation White Eagle Aerospace Short Course
  5. 5. Basic Missile Aerodynamics Aviation HistoryMuch has transpired during the 100‐plus years of powered flight. We areboth the beneficiaries and stewards of the technological progress thatprevious generations have bequeathed to us. However, the truth is that agreat many in today’s aerospace workforce have little knowledge of the keypeople, events, and innovations that comprise the history of their ownprofession. While we cannot live in the past, we must learn from it if we areto be successful now and in the future. Further, like our predecessors, wemust protect and preserve this legacy knowledge for succeeding generations. It is for these reasons that White Eagle Aerospace strongly emphasizesaerospace history in the technical courses that it offers. This is done throughthe mediums of special presentations, videos and discussions. Vehiclesaddressed in the Basic Missile Aerodynamics course include: STANDARD Missile Lockheed X‐7A AIR‐2 Genie Trident SLBM Atlas ICBM Nike Ajax Saturn V Nike Zeus Navaho BOMARC THAAD AMRAAM White Eagle Aerospace Short Course
