• The value 2,3 consumption
of quinoa is apparent,
because the data on the
smuggling of quinoa to
neighbor countries is not
considered. The value is
less.
• We can also see that there is a higher consumption of potatoes, flour
and sugar. A higher carbohydrate consumption is not recommended by
nutrition professionals as it causes different diseases. (predisposition to
Non-infectious diseases, include diabetes, hypertension, cancer,
cardiovascular diseases).
Identification of the problem and development of the
proposal (2018)
• The value of per capita consumption of quinoa 2,3 is far from the
real thing.
• Food subsidies do not reach the entire population and are not
sufficient to solve nutrition problems.
• There are bad eating habits of the population.
• There is still malnutrition and anemia in children in Bolivia.
• There is no day in the year to remember and boost quinoa
consumption in Bolivia or internationally

• In January 2018, on a private initiative, from Bolivia the celebration of July 7th is
proposed as the International Day of Quinoa Consumption.
• From the beginning, a strategy for dissemination and globalization is generated :

7th International Day of Quinoa" Consumption for the year 2021
• Carry out the second version of the International webinar, next July
7th, with the participation of more institutions and more countries.

  • 3. Quinoa production and export in Bolivia • Quinoa producers are approximately:  In total 70.000, in the Northern, Central and Southern Altiplano.  Only 15.000 go to internal and external marketing  The other producers are families that produce for self consumption.

  • 5. • The value 2,3 consumption of quinoa is apparent, because the data on the smuggling of quinoa to neighbor countries is not considered. The value is less. • We can also see that there is a higher consumption of potatoes, flour and sugar. A higher carbohydrate consumption is not recommended by nutrition professionals as it causes different diseases. (predisposition to Non-infectious diseases, include diabetes, hypertension, cancer, cardiovascular diseases).

Identification of the problem and development of the proposal (2018) • The value of per capita consumption of quinoa 2,3 is far from the real thing. • Food subsidies do not reach the entire population and are not sufficient to solve nutrition problems. • There are bad eating habits of the population. • There is still malnutrition and anemia in children in Bolivia. • There is no day in the year to remember and boost quinoa consumption in Bolivia or internationally

JANUARY APRIL JUNE - JULY 2018 Broadcast tools • In January 2018, on a private initiative, from Bolivia the celebration of July 7th is proposed as the International Day of Quinoa Consumption. • From the beginning, a strategy for dissemination and globalization is generated :  Posters and videos are made  The Facebook Page is created «July 7th International Day of Quinoa Consumption»  https://www.facebook.com/7julio.ricardo2018/?modal=admin_todo_tour  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdRpmX94JmY  E-mails, messages and invitations are sent to all institutions and people working with quinoa in several countries • 5 people from different institutions in countries decide to start the celebration

  • 11. 2020 This year 2020, in commemoration of this day, the International Webinar was held QUINOA PRODUCTION AND CONSUMPTION, Current Situation and Challenges in times of COVID-19, with the organization and active participation in 12 countries. • General organizer: Eng.   • 12. 2018 2019 2020 • 1 central event (fair) • 2 public entities (They recognize and mention) • 2 activities for the celebration of the day • 1 Fair(out of date) organized by a public institution • 1 central virtual event in coordination with 12 countries • 4 virtual events conducted by public and private institutions independently • Several national publications in networks celebrating the day Results of the celebration in Bolivia • The celebration of the Day was generalized and consolidated. • Quinoa consumption was promoted. • Government actions were promoted in favor of the quinoa item.
