Manifest through LUNA
We began exploring IIIF in 2016
when we introduced the IIIF
Presentation API to the LUNA
Toolset with our v7.2 release.
From the Share feature you can
launch a URL or a IIIF manifest
(the blue highlighted text)
4. IIIF Viewers: Universal Viewer & Mirador
You can then take the IIIF manifest and paste it into a IIIF Viewer such as the IIIF Universal Viewer or
Mirador (Mirador is illustrated above)

7. A Customized Universal Viewer – Clyfford Still Museum & Cogapp
The Clyfford Still
Museum –
working with
Cogapp - utilized
an early version
of LUNA’s IIIF
Presentation API
for image delivery
in the custom UI.

8. The integration involved multiple vendors and products - in
this version of the IIIF Presentation API LUNA only delivered
images to the custom UI–

17. Ongoing development in LUNA: Going beyond a IIIF Image Server
In addition to easily sharing the IIIF manifest (illustrated below),
we’ve added a Universal Viewer option to the LUNA Detail View
18. Launched using the rotation icon – since the IIIF
Universal Viewer supports both rotation and
seamless zooming.

19. Universal Viewer in LUNA with the zoom and rotate features of Open SeaDragon
The IIIF Viewer is currently an option launched from LUNA Detail View.
It doesn’t replace the LUNA Detail View since we still have features within LUNA that are not yet fully
supported by the IIIF Presentation API

21. Created a lot of buzz when it was released in December – created an exceptional
amount of traffic from sources such as the Guardian and the BBC to National
Geographic. Of which - perhaps 50% of all of the viewers who clicked on the URLs to
view the worlds largest map, did so on mobile devices –

Editor's Notes
Version: April 10, 2018
I’ve been an advocate for image interoperability to promote research and sharing within the cultural heritage community since joining LUNA from the Museum community in 1999
Early LUNA endeavors included AMICA – a centrally hosted solution encouraging museums to share resources with selected vendor distributjion networks (we still offer AMICA to our LUNA clients).
Library Discovery solutions – both public (DPLA, OCLCs World Cat, CDL) and private (EBSCO, ExLibris) often supported by OAI-PMH data mapping or xml harvesting with source URLs to media resources.
SEO or Search Engine Optimization (Google images…)
With IIIF we now appear to have the technology – both the foundation and the community supporting it – to leverage innovations.
We began exploring IIIF in 2016 when we introduced the IIIF Presentation API to the LUNA Toolset with our v7.2 release.
From the Share feature you can launch a URL or a IIIF manifest (the blue highlighted text)
You can then take the IIIF manifest and paste it into a IIIF Viewer such as the IIIF Universal Viewer
And then hit enter – and you can see that the source was the LUNA IIIF server
Next up:
I’ll wrap with the announcement that the next IIIF Annual conference is just around the corner and in Washington, DC
