"Problems are to the mind what
exercise is to the muscles, they
toughen and make strong.” -- Norman
Vincent Peale
Whether we call them issues,
challenges or obstacles, they are
problems that needs to be solved.
Here are 8 simple steps to solve
problems.
Problems are inevitable, they arise in
different shapes and forms. They can
be mundane, everyday problems, or
larger more complex problems.
Everyday we are faced with at least
one problem to solve and the better
we are at it, the easier our lives
become.
Problems can motivate us to change
and ultimately make things work
better for ourselves and others. The
key is the perception we have of the
problems.
What you get by reaching your
destination is not as important as
what you become by reaching your
destination. By any standards,
Maximizing our potentials and
reaching our highest state of
development should be our ultimate
priority. Therefore, any problem or
stumbling block that comes our way
is a chance to change for the better.
“Every problem has a gift for you in its
hands.”-- Richard Bach

100 Quotes That Will Boost Your
Confidence In No Time
“The best years of your life are the
ones in which you decide your
problems are your own. You do not
blame them on your mother, the
ecology, or the president. You realize
that you control your own destiny.”
Albert Ellis
Einstein is quoted as having said that
if he had one hour to save the world
he would spend fifty-five minutes
defining the problem and only five
minutes finding the solution.
This quote does illustrate an
important point: before jumping right
into solving a problem, we should
step back and invest time and effort
to improve our understanding of it.
1. Define The
Problem
What exactly is the challenge you are
facing?
Clearly understand the problem
before working on it.
There may be multiple issues within a
single situation. The key is to deal
with the real(root) problem and not
just the symptoms.
You can make a list of these issues
and define why each one is a problem
to you. Write down everything you
know about the problem.
The thing here is to understand
exactly what you want. Clearly Define
the Ideal Solution to the Problem
What exactly must the solution
accomplish? What ingredients must
the solution contain? What would
your ideal solution to this problem
look like? Define the parameters
clearly.
You should be clear on this one.
What are some ways to solve the
problem?
Analyze the money, time, people etc.
necessary for each approach as well
as the return that you can expect
from various strategies.
What have you the means to do? Who
can help you? What information or
knowledge or skills do you need?
Who has solved this type of problem
before. What's the best way you've
handled this type of problem before?
There are several brainstorming
techniques you can use. The goal is
to create a list of possible solutions.
Lead your thinking with phrases like
‘what if…’ and ‘imagine if…’ These
terms open up our brains to think
creatively and encourage solutions.
The more positive your language is,
the more confident and optimistic
you will be when approaching any
difficulty. The more creative and
insightful you will be in identifying
2. Define Your
Goals
3. Brainstorm
Solutions
4. Use positive
language
creative solutions and breakthrough
ideas.
After carefully considering all your
options, you must select the best
solution/strategy for your problem
and stick with your choice
What is the best thing to do at this
time under the circumstances?
For every alternative you formed in
the previous step, weigh the positive
effects and negative consequences
that each solution would bring. For
every and any option, determine its
advantages and its risks.
"Focus 90% of your time on solutions
and only 10% of your time on
problems." ~Anthony J. D’Angelo
Focusing your energy, time and
thoughts on the solution much more
beneficial for you and others than
doing the opposite.
Focusing on the problem rarely helps
matters. Instead, it only wastes your
time and energy as you go over it
repeatedly in your mind.
Your mind can only give its full
attention to one thing at a time. If
you focus on the problem, negative
thoughts can overtake you more
readily. If you focus on the solution,
you actively engage your mind in
resolving the matter.
Individuals and companies that are
able to get through tremendous
setbacks and actually grow focus on
solutions, not more problem.
What we focus on expands. If we
focus on problems, we will get more
problems. If we focus on solutions,
we will get more solutions.
This is where your thought/solutions
becomes a reality.
Finding a solution does not mean
that the problem is solved. You still
need to implement the solution. Even
the best solutions often fail because
of ineffective implementation.
The implementation of a solution
requires planning and execution
5. Choose a solution
6. Focus on the
solution
7. Execute The
Solution

The ideal solution is effective (it will
meet the goal), efficient (is
affordable), and has the fewest side
effects (limited consequences from
implementation).
Did you get the result intended. On a
scale of 1- 10, how would you rate the
result.
It's important to review what worked,
what didn’t and what impact the
solution had to know if you
successfully solved the problem. It
also helps you improve long-term
problem solving skills and keeps you
from re-inventing the wheel.
Set measures on your decision. How
will you know that you are making
progress? How will you measure
success? How will you compare the
success of this solution against the
success of another solution?
Finally: Always look for the hidden
lesson in every problem. Let every
problem make you smarter, stronger
and more intelligent.
