Losing Weight… One kg at a timeOn TV we watch folks lose 150 pounds in a few episodes. Weight loss doesn’t happen that way. It’s a long, slow, steady process. But you know what – if you lose weight by following a long, slow steady process, you’re much more likely to keep that weight off! So if you're overweight, try to lose some weight. A loss of just 5 to 10 percent of your current weight can really lower your heart disease risk. And you’ll feel better too.Eating Right To lose weight, cut back your calorie intake. Eat smaller portions and choose lower calorie foods. Stay away from junk food, and don’t tempt yourself by keeping unhealthy snacks in your home. When you go out to eat, don't feel that you have to finish those oversized entrees! Doing Physical Activity RegularlyYou don't have to be an athlete to lower your risk for heart disease. People gain some health benefits from as little as 60 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week.If you haven't been active in awhile, start physical activity slowly and build up the intensity over time. For major health benefits, adults should do at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity five times a week. If that sounds like a lot, don’t be discouraged. Few of us do that. But it’s a great goal. If you’ve been inactive for awhile, and suddenly start taking afternoon walks with a friend, you’re going to feel better!
