January 11, 2012Introduction:The current family spend 35% of there time consuming food outside there home. There is a 7% toa 12% of children that skip breakfast. The reason why is they had too much to do in the morning. They try to get to school on time so they forget about breakfast. They do not want to be late forthere first class. Children here in the United States consume more then half of there own bodyweight, when they eat.
Why childhood obesity is become a problemWhy Children consume so much food. It could be the environment that there in.Ever child has an environment that the live in. It might be a wealthy, middle class, or a poor environment. Not ever child has an environment that the partners can afford a lot of food. These children go to school hunger, and when it comes to lunch they eat and want more so they head for the vending machine. In these machine they do not get there daily nutrition. When they do not get proper nutrition they can become over weight. Childhood obesity is an increasing problem here in the United States. There are more then 9 million children here in the U.S.A that is obese, and 16% are becoming obese. We need to start creating an environment where kids can grow up healthier then what they have. Showing children that they do have a choice in what they eat will help them make the right choices in the food they eat. Show them they do not have to have low-energy.How the right food can affect a child. Children choices food that is very high in calories. It is affecting the way the feel and performs in school. When they have taken in to many fatty acids foods, they
become less active in school. They do not get enough nutrients to fuel their bodies to do well in school. When children take in to much fatty acids food they can provide a risk of having an unhealthy life. There are a number of influences that play big part on what kids eat. Like characters they have seen on TV. When it comes to ratiocination what they are eating then they can get the proper protein their bodies need. Most children attend school for nine months out of the year. So that means they spend most of there time in school. The schools do have healthy meals but some teens will not eat at the cafeteria, they get to go off campus or they will wait unstill school it over to eat. The children don’t like the food or they say it’s not enough, so it does not fill them up. The results of that are they are still hunger. So what do they do they go to the vending machines and get chips, candy bars, and cookies. So they will have something more to eat. The hunger they get, they more they will eat.How the media can play a roll in are children eating habitsThe media plays a big roll in what are kids eat today. Television, radio, and billboardsthey can see. Plays an in roll in how are kids look at food. The actors the see on thescreens has a big part in how they see themselves. It can affect the see and feel aboutthem, when they don’t see they don’t look like movie stars. When teens and kids to gothe movies the will go and try to get the cheapest way to have pop and popcorn. Thatway they can get free refills on them. They watch how the actors are and they try toportray the way the live and act. When they see an actor not eating they think they don’thave to eat, or it can be the opposite. The food industry looks at actors and athlete’s asa promoter for sell there food or drink. The food industry has a promoter that will say
thinks just to sell the produce. They target children and young adults, because they lookup to these people. They influence the by showing them drinks and food that the star’sdrink and eat. When they do this the child ask there mom or dad can we go there andeat that food that the stars eat? The food might be height in calories. The actors andathletes will show there favor snacks and bake goods. Like eat this instead of that. Evenif it’s a Big Mac its better for you then a Subway just saying. Kids look at people thathave particular lifestyles, and the market targets that. They have food that can go withany life style now. They go for what the actors are wearing and eating. They haveshowed that show people that are not overweight and not getting fat. All that show’s thechildren that it’s ok to eat and eat, and they will not be overweight. So children mockwhat the see. Many of are factors have contributed to what are children want and seeon TV. They have come up with a way to get people to buy food. Like when you a Pepsion TV do your child ever ask mommy or daddy can I have a Pepsi? Kraft is a goodprotein cheese can build bones but not much of it can get some kids sick. Now theyhave came out with lower- calories drink it’s what better for you. That is still fating to bechildren. The avenge house hold spend over $476 billion in restaurants alone. Manthat’s a lot of money. Maybe that’s why are children are getting to be oboist. Over 78%of child’s go shopping with there parent’s. They will help mom and dad pick out the foodthey will eat. When they do that, the children influence what the partners buy. They willbe like I don’t eat that I eat this and the partners give in and by them food that’s notgood for them, or they buy food that has characters on it. Like Nestle used the nestlebunny and who could for get the Koo-Aid Man for Koo-Aid. With his smiling face everone would want to buy him. Having characters on TV and food has a big impact of whatkids eat and what they eat. If your child is a Harry Potter fan, then they would have to be
Harry Potter, it goes for Sponge Bob creoles or Sponge Bob soup. When people thatmake this characters, the kids that have seen them I has a big impact on what the buyand what they eat. Now they have characters on all most everything. The include pizza, cookies, cake, and even beverages that the kids are drinking. When a child see therefavor character they just have to have it what ever it is. The advertisements companyhas been doing this for years. When a child sees food on TV they ask mom or dad ifthey can have it. When the child does not get what he or she wants, they will throw a fituntil they do. So the parents given in and take them to McDonald’s or the Pizza place. When the get what they want , they go home and sit playing video games or they watchTV, and they don’t burn off the fatty food they just ate. There are a number ofbeverages, and food group out there. What can we do as parents and teachers? As partners we need to watch what goes in are children mouth. We need to watch howmuch unhealthy are kids eat in a day. Watching the intake of food and beverages wecan help them increase the amount they take in. we need to help them devolve a betterbase of intake in more healthy foods. That will give is, a better nutritious way of eating. How do we as parents approach this matter? We approach this problem by comingtogether as parents and teachers. When the children are at school, have the schooloffer better nutritional foods and beverages, which have vitamins and protein in them.Offer food and drink’s that the children will enjoy. Just because the school has vendingmachines, it does not mean they could not put heather food in them. When theyintroduce heather food the children will be showing a better and healthier way of eating.
They will then make better choices in what they eat. Providing a better choice canimpact the way children look at there food. In food like, foods that has more “fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Will set a better nutritionally standers for the children. It is important to have values about what foods are going into are kids mouths. Have itwhere ever student and child have a healthy breakfast. With a healthy breakfast theymight just make it better choices on having a healthy lunch. The reason is they will fillbetter about having a healthy breakfast, so they will want a healthily lunch. When theyhave healthy food in them the will fill better about their self’s. With the fact that is foodhas high sugar, fat, and salt out of schools a problem. I am not saying all the food weconsume is high in fat, just most of it is. It is just when they are growing up the see foodon TV and the want it. As grade school, middle schools, and high schools, get morechildren they should provide a more filling and nutritious meals for them. When they eatbetter they will do better in there work. They will also make better choices at home inwhat they eat. Showing children you do not have to be a superstar to become famous inlife. When you change into a better person you fell better, and do better in school. Whenschools recommended better nutrient standards they will improve the way the studentslook at food outside of the school. These will be the first steps in indenting them waychildren and teens look at their food. Becoming well organized to show them the rightstep’s for them to take. Making food and beverage that have more protein and vitaminsin them and making them available for the children will big a huge step in the rightdirections. Conclusion:Having a positive change in how the food is seen and how the food is look at will have ahuge impact on the kids out come. All we have to do is make a change in how we show
are children and how we look at food.ReferenceChild and Adolescent ObesityCause and Consequence, Prevention and ManagementEdited by Walter Burniat.
