Swords to Plowshares Employment and Training Programs and Processes

  1. 1. Process Time: Approximately 3-4 Months The Employer Driven Curriculum (EDC) approach is best utilized when an employer has a minimum of 15 highly skilled positions that they need to fill. The EDC model includes collaborating with a local training resource, such as a community college, to produce a condensed and tailored curriculum that is delivered to a cohort of veterans. A Swords staff member serves as the Project Manager and leads the recruitment effort which may include internal recruitment, utilizing a social media campaign, reaching out to our veteran network and community partners. Swords pre-screens all veterans prior to enrollment which may include meeting one-on-one, assessing skills and background, testing, and mock interviews. employment@stp-sf.org ⋅ www.swords-to-plowshares.org Main Office 1060 Howard Street ⋅ San Francisco, CA 94103 ⋅ (415) 252-4788 East Bay Office 2719 Telegraph Avenue ⋅ Oakland, CA 94612 ⋅ (510) 844-7500 Employer Driven Curriculum (EDC) Employer Driven Curriculum (EDC) Process Develop curriculum, on-the-job training plan, wage progression schedule, and identify credentials to be earned Classroom, training facilities, instructional equipment and supplies are secured Employer meets with Swords to determine number of positions, timeline, skill requirements, job duties, and who will administer training Notify veterans of acceptance into EDC cohort Swords identifies, recruits and pre-screens potential veteran participants Testing of veterans for EDC cohort Swords Job Developer works with veteran on challenges identified by employer Track and report outcomes to evaluate program progress and make changes as needed If hired, employer completes Employment Verification If not hired, employer provides feedback to the Swords Job Developer Deliver curriculum and begin on-the-job training Swords provides supportive services to retain veterans during training
