  1. 1. The man, who moved the Earth, held the Sun and the heavens
  2. 2. BIOGRAPHY <ul><li>Nicolaus Copernicus is an all-round Renaissance man –an astronomer , a mathematician, a doctor and a clergymen. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Copernicus was born in the city of Torun on 19th February 1473. He was the youngest of four children in a wealthy family . Unfortunately, when he was ten, his father died.
  4. 4. <ul><li>From 1491 to 1495 Copernicus studied astronomy and philosophy at the University of Krakow. </li></ul><ul><li>+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ </li></ul>
  5. 5. Later he undertook an astronomy course in Bologna, Italy. He accomplished his education in Padua where he studied medicine and canonic law.

  8. 8. Copernicus devoted two chapters in his famous book to trigonometry, which was a still unknown science in the 16 th century.
  9. 9. The Catholic Church condemned and banned De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium .   G. Bruno, J. K epler and Galileo were among the scientific supporters and defenders of the theory . 
  10. 10. The great scientist is said to have constructed the water supply installations in Formbork and other Prussian towns.

  12. 12. SOMETHING INTERESTING about COPERNICUS AND. . . <ul><li>People used to eat dark bread at that time. When someone dropped his piece on the ground he wouldn’t be able to see the grime stuck to it. Copernicus used a thin layer of butter over the bread as a means to stop the spreading disease. </li></ul>
