Seva Bharathi recognizes that access to education is a crucial factor in escaping these situations. Hence a program "Kishori Vikas" started in 2005 with a few girls, is now a program of 6576 girls focusing on adolescent girls’ upbringing in the slums by educating and providing them vocational training besides informing them about the importance of hygiene, and health. EDUCATION 80% girls of the Kishori Vikas program goes to Government schools, and they need a helping hand in making them understand subjects and drill down to the topics taught in their school. The volunteers continuously support them by clarifying doubts on a daily basis and also assess them by conducting tests and ensuring their learning curve is steadily growing. Special sessions are organised for 10th Class students to make sure they successfully get through the board exam.

Nurturing Skills Along with education, we are focused on nurturing students skills such as Drawing, Painting, Singing, Meditation, Yoga, Dancing, behavioral skills, personality development skills. The volunteer guides girls by providing tips on performing better and providing required resources (stationery, special training, and other avenues) to achieve and become mastery of that skill. Today, several girls performed at the state-level competitions under Painting, Drawing, Dancing and won several accolades which gives satisfaction to the volunteer and the overall program.

  13. 13. www.sevabharathi.org CONNECTING THE RIGHT DOTS Shireesha got affected by some problem in the childhood which affected her legs. She could walk barely and she always had to depend on someone to reach school or to the center. When the volunteers approached Shireesha's mother she narrated their experience of attempt in Tirupati which was a failure. Shireesha parents rely on selling fruits and didn't had neither financial independence to make her walk independently or the knowledge to get it fixed. When the Kishori Vikas volunteers got to know the issue and helplessness of the parents, our team approached an NGO that is fixing Jaipur legs for these kind of problems. Parents having the confidence in the volunteers agreed to explore this opportunity where the volunteers confidently tackled this challenge and arranged for a Jaipur leg. Shireesha is now able to walk slowly and she will be better in few months.

  18. 18. Beeram Ammulu Poreddy Divya Beeram Ammulu is an inter-second year student at Sri Geetanjali Junior College. Ammulu’s mother passed away 6 years ago. Her father, however, refuses to support her and her younger brother, leaving them to live with their grandparents. As they grew older, it became more challenging for the grandparents to financially support their grandchildren, especially when it came to their education. To help Ammulu out in the way they can, the Seva Bharathi and the Konda Laxman Babuji foundations paid for her education, lifting at least one burden off the family’s. Meet P. Divya. Divya is currently studying to obtain a BTech degree. Her father, unfortunately, passed away at the end of her first year of college. At the time, her mother was working and her wages could provide for her family’s needs and Divya’s education. But sadly, her mother was diagnosed with cancer and she could no longer work. While her relatives agreed to pay for food and other necessities, they had a conservative mindset and thought she did not need a college degree. Hence, they wouldn’t cover her tuition. Since money was tight at the time, Divya was considering dropping out of college. However, the Seva Bharathi foundation couldn’t let this happen. The Seva Bharathi Foundation and the Konda Laxman Babuji Foundation together are covering her tuition until she graduates. The 2 foundations allowed Divya to pursue her education, and not give up on her dreams. Special story
