  1. 1. Running head: VPH-WS3.4 DROPBOX: MOTIVATING FACTORS Motivating Factors: Incentives, Achievement, Affiliation Vanessa P Hebert Dr. Theresa Veach Nov 22, 2015 PSY-150 General Psychology I have read and I understand the plagiarism policy as outlined in the syllabus and the sections in the Student Catalog relating to the IWU Honesty/Cheating Policy. By affixing this statement to the title page of my paper, I certify that I have not cheated or plagiarized in the process of completing this assignment. If found that cheating and/or plagiarism did take place in the writing of this paper, I understand the possible consequences of the act/s, which could include expulsion from Indiana Wesleyan University.
  2. 2. Running head: VPH- WS3.4 EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL My motivating factors are a combination of external and internal. My desire to pursue an education has to do with a personal achievement that encapsulates the need to increase my earning power. The most consuming motivation that aid me in pushing past my pain has to do with the confidence my daughter has in me. I want to show her that her faith and pride in me is well placed. The incentives are simply to be self sufficient with the ability to provide for myself while meeting my private personal achievement goals and afflation within my family (AAP Theory). My resolve, my faith in God, and determination to succeed are what drives me generally. I am aroused by the thought that every new day provides the opportunity of a miracle. The secret need to be more than what my circumstances are, I do not like being a woman that is unable to provide for herself living off an inadequate retirement income. My desire to be comparatively successful as others in my family is usually present. It is unsettling for me to be in my family and not be financially solvent. Maslow’s theory of the hierarchy of needs does not say what happens when the order of needs present themselves out of order with a mix. I am in conflict with being spiritually aligned with my true self on the self actualization but life has presented me with the challenge of overcoming spinal stenosis-cervical and lumbar, with hypothyroidism-with all that these entail. I want to return to work to regain the life I once had. The most powerful strategy for me is mental imagining. I can see a brighter day. As God did for his servant Job, so shall my latter days shall be greater than my former days-Job 42:12. Writing about how the ups or downs in life affect humanity, creating a Business Mission or Plan and melodic therapy (music), are two other ways that I obtain emotional and mental relief. I am resolved to follow the journey and find the good in it along the way.
