Internet is a huge collection of computers all over the world that are connected to
one another.
These computers are connected to each other through TCP/IP
Connection types:
• Phone lines
• Fiber optics line
• Satellite and wireless connection

History of internet.
Work on internet started in 1960s during cold war.
ARPANET.
Used sputnik satellite and America developed a network.
Developed for Advance Research Project Agency (ARPA).
Protocol.
Protocol is collection of rules.
First protocol NCP (Network Control Protocol) was developed on 1970s, for data transfer.
DARPA.
DARPA (Defense Advance Research Projects Agency) was a new name of ARPA.
DARPA share data not to only a single network but also among different net works.
TCP/IP.
TCP/IP (Transmition Control Protocol) It was developed by Stanford Research Institute.
BITNET & CSNET.
BITNET (Because It’s Time Network) and CSNET (Computer Science Network).
IBM and University computers it for academic and research purposes.
World Wide Network
Internet
The largest network that connects over 100million Computers together and numbers are still
growing tremendously.
In 1986, NSFNET was developed to connect academic research of different countries
together.
Internet Connection Types
Connection of computers through any kind of source to share data is called Internet
connection.
Cable Internet
Internet access through the cable television network via a cable modem.
DSL
Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) uses regular copper telephone line.
FTTP
Fiber to Premises (FTTP) uses fiber optics cable.
Fixed Wireless
It uses dish shape antenna for user to communicate with a tower location via radio signals
Cellular Radio
It uses built-in compatible technology or wireless modem for internet connection.
Wi-Fi
It uses radio signals for compatible or properly equipped computers and devices.
Satellite
Internet connection via satellite to a satellite dish communicating with a satellite modem.
WWW
World Wide Web also called web.
Collection of documents or web pages stored in computer, permanently connected with
Internet.

EDI deals with the business and carrying out transactions electronically using a
paperless trading system.
EDI covers the most thing that uses paper based communication.
Exchange of communication occurs in the basic unit called messages or
transaction sets.

EDI Software
Software translates messages from internal organizational formats to the standard
formats of EDI.
It enables data and messages to move directly from application to software of the
sender to EDI transmission.
EDI Electronic Communication
The infrastructure for electronic communication enables the messages to flow
between sender and receiver.
The organizations can meet these requirement by using the servies of third party
service provider called Value Added Networks.
