U.S. Navy Careers• No matter what your background, there are U.S. Navy careers for you.• The first thing to determine is whether you want to be an officer or enlisted sailor.• If you have particular U.S. Navy careers in mind, you’ll need to plan ahead to ensure that you meet the requirements to join the Navy.

Requirements To Join The Navy• Whether you want to be an enlisted sailor or an officer, you’ll need to pass certain requirements.• Potential sailors need to be in good health, be able to pass a standard physical and be in good physical condition.• It’s not required to be a U.S. citizen, but non-citizens do need to have a Permanent Resident Alien card.

Requirements To Join The Navy: Enlisted • If you’re interested in becoming an enlisted sailor, you’ll need to graduate from high school. • Sailors can be allowed in with just a GED, but it’s rare and these sailors could have their advancement opportunities limited. • They will also need to score at least a 35 of the Armed Forces Qualification Test.

Requirements To Join The Navy: Officers• Potential officers need to graduate from a four year college or university and then take the Aviation Selection Test Batteries.• This test is six sections, however only potential aviators need to take all six sections.• The first three sections are required by all and are known as the Officer Aptitude Rating.
  6. 6. Enlisted U.S. Navy Careers• There are nine sections in the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery.• These help determine which U.S. Navy careers sailors are qualified to do. They include: • General Science • Automotive and Shop Information • Arithmetic Reasoning • Word Knowledge • Mechanical Comprehension • Paragraph • Assembling Objects Comprehension • Verbal Expression • Mathematics Knowledge

Enlisted U.S. Navy Careers• The scores in these sections are combined to determine where a sailor will be placed.• A sailor who scores well in mechanical comprehension could be an air traffic controller or an aviation support equipment technician.• A sailor who scores well in word knowledge and paragraph comprehension could be a cryptologic technician.• Other U.S. Navy careers include sonar technician, musician, medical and dental technician, aviation mechanics and more.

Officer U.S. Navy Careers• There aren’t as many U.S. Navy careers available to officers.• However, they can become Navy SEALs, surface warfare officers, submarine officers, Naval aviators, medical personnel and chaplains.• The Navy does try to match careers with skills and degrees, but these things are handled on an individual basis.
