How To Qualify For A U.S. Diversity Visa (DV-2022)

  1. 1. HOW TO QUALIFY FOR A DIVERSITY VISA (DV-2022)
  2. 2. Keep reading to find out: 1. What is the Diversity Visa Program? 2.Am I eligible? 3. How do I enter? 4.How will I find out the results? 5. What happens if my entry is selected?
  3. 3. The Diversity Visa Program (popularly known as the Green Card Lottery) makes immigrant visas available to people from countries with historically low levels of immigration to the United States. 50,000 visas are available through the 2022 Diversity Visa Program (DV-2022). What is the Diversity Visa Program?
  4. 4. The DV-2022 rules are strict but simple. Websites and agents may pretend they represent the U.S. Government or that they can improve your chances – don’t believe them! Entries can be completed without the help of a third party.
  5. 5. Am I eligible? You will NOT qualify for DV-2022 if you were BORN in: ● The United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories ● Bangladesh ● Brazil ● Canada ● China (including Hong Kong SAR) ● Colombia ● Dominican Republic ● El Salvador ● Guatemala ● Haiti ● Honduras ● India ● Jamaica ● Mexico ● Nigeria ● Pakistan ● Philippines ● South Korea ● Vietnam UNLESS Your spouse was born in a qualifying country AND is named on your entry. OR At least one of your parents was born in a qualifying country. and neither of your parents was born in the country of your birth. and they weren’t legally resident in your country of birth when you were born.
  6. 6. Am I eligible? You must also have at least one of the following: A high school education or its equivalent (successful completion of a 12 year course of formal elementary and secondary education). OR Two years of qualifying work experience within the past five years in an occupation that requires at least two years training or experience to perform. Check the instructions at dvprogram.state.gov to find out if your work experience qualifies.
  7. 7. You will only qualify for DV-2022 if you meet the requirements. Don’t believe agents or websites that tell you otherwise. If you are not eligible to enter, you cannot receive a visa! Carefully read the instructions at dvprogram.state.gov before deciding whether or not to register.
  8. 8. How do I enter? Visit dvprogram.state.gov for the DV-2022 instructions and online entry form. Use your own email address on your entry form. Fill out the entry form completely without omitting information. Entries can only be submitted between October 7 and November 10, 2020 (5:00 PM GMT). High demand can result in website delays so don’t wait to apply. Late entries will not be accepted.
  9. 9. The official website is dvprogram.state.gov – beware of imitations! There is no charge to complete the online entry form. Selection is computer-generated and random so don’t believe anyone who says they can guarantee you a visa or increase your chances. If someone helps you, make sure you are with them. YOU are responsible for your entry. If details are incorrect, you may be ineligible for a visa. You will be disqualified if multiple entries are submitted in your name, no matter who submitted them.
  10. 10. How will I find out the results? Results will be available at dvprogram.state.gov from May 8, 2021. You will need your unique confirmation number to check your results so be wary if someone offers to keep it for you. Print your confirmation number and keep it safe until at least September 30, 2022.
  11. 11. Any letters or emails offering you a visa or saying you have won the Green Card lottery are NOT legitimate. The U.S. Government will not contact you directly about the outcome of your entry. You can only find out if your entry has been selected for further processing via dvprogram.state.gov from May 8, 2021.
  12. 12. What happens if my entry is selected? If your entry is selected, it does not mean you have “won” a visa or Green Card, or that your application will definitely be successful. Don’t delay in applying – visa numbers are limited and cannot be guaranteed to the end of the program. It means you have the opportunity to apply for a visa if your rank number becomes eligible for processing.
  13. 13. What happens if my entry is selected? If your entry is selected for final processing, your Entrant Status Check account will explain how and when to: 1. Gather documents to prove you meet the eligibility requirements. 2. Undergo a medical examination. 3. Pay visa fees. 4. Book a visa interview. Only the consular officer can decide if you qualify! Do not make plans to move to the U.S. unless your passport has been returned to you containing a valid visa.
  14. 14. Don’t believe letters or emails saying you have won a visa or a Green Card, even if they claim to be from government officials. Other warning signs include promises of a job and housing, and requests for money through wire transfer services. You can only find out if your entry has been selected by checking dvprogram.state.gov from May 8, 2021.
  15. 15. REMEMBER 1. Read the instructions at dvprogram.state.gov carefully before deciding whether to enter. 2. You don’t need the assistance of a third party to enter. No-one can guarantee your selection or improve your chances. 3. You can only enter between October 7 and November 10, 2020. 4. Entry is free at dvprogram.state.gov – the only official website. 5. The only way to check if your entry has been selected is at dvprogram.state.gov from May 8, 2021. Keep your confirmation number safe until September 30, 2022. 6. Not everyone whose entry is selected will receive a visa – only a consular officer can determine if an applicant qualifies.
