❖Intramural sports teams
❖Work Study Jobs
If you can’t seem to find
something you are interested
in you can always get creative
and start a new club on
Don’t be scared! Some stereotypes are
false❖Professors genuinely care about students. They are there to help and
understand if you are late to class or have to leave early every once in awhile.
Life happens! They also will not embarrass you for getting the answer wrong.
❖College students do sleep: In fact many students try to fit in a nap every once in
awhile. Of course there are long nights and early mornings, but if you do not
procrastinate, you will have fewer nights with less sleep.
❖Finals week is hard, but it is possible. Just remember to be organized and work
on one thing at a time. (If you try hard, try not to worry! You can only try your
Things are going to Change
For many students, it will be the first time you are on your own. Things to keep in mind:
❖ Parents/Guardians will not be there to cook, clean, and do laundry for you. It is important
for you to learn how to do these things and be responsible for yourself and surroundings.
❖ You will most likely have a roommate(s). Be respectful to your roommate(s) by keeping
the common areas clean and tidy.
❖ Attendance, participation, and handing in assignments is all up to you! But do not worry,
Professors are understanding and remind students about important due dates.
❖ You will be on your own. Everything you do is completely up to you. There won’t be
anyone reminding you to get your work done. Your success is the result of all the effort
you put in.
The best parts of college
❖ You get to meet a lot of new people from various backgrounds
❖ You become a strong analytical thinker which allows you to discover
who you are
❖ You have a lot more independence
❖ Choice: you get to decide everything you do with your time
❖ There is always some type of activity or function on campus that is fun
and widens your knowledge
❖ You make connections and friendships that will last a lifetime
Be Adventurous, Explore Beyond Campus
Take a break from the campus surrounding, bring your friends downtown, or meet
new friends at coffee shops!
❖Explore neighboring cities
You will find perfect studying spots, awesome food, and places to let loose after

❖ Meet all of your professors in office hours.
❖ Seek help. Ask questions. It will make you successful.
❖ Make friends with people who are outside of your dorm and in a different major.
❖ Be honest: to others and yourself.
❖ Contact your family and friends from back home.
❖ Take some alone time to discover who you are.
❖ Step outside of your comfort zone.
❖ Take care of yourself: do what you need to do for your physical and mental health
❖ Time Management: Very important, you don’t want to be procrastinating on assignments due the next
day. Use your time wisely.
