Meet 8 Getting Ready for College Life

  1. 1. Ready for the College Life Tips and Encouragement
  2. 2. College is the place to reinvent yourself and find your true passions! There are many things to do on campus besides going to classes. Be courageous and join something that seems interesting to you: ❖Intramural sports teams ❖Clubs/Organizations ❖Sororities/Fraternities ❖Work Study Jobs ❖Internships If you can’t seem to find something you are interested in you can always get creative and start a new club on campus!
  3. 3. Don’t be scared! Some stereotypes are false❖Professors genuinely care about students. They are there to help and understand if you are late to class or have to leave early every once in awhile. Life happens! They also will not embarrass you for getting the answer wrong. ❖College students do sleep: In fact many students try to fit in a nap every once in awhile. Of course there are long nights and early mornings, but if you do not procrastinate, you will have fewer nights with less sleep. ❖Finals week is hard, but it is possible. Just remember to be organized and work on one thing at a time. (If you try hard, try not to worry! You can only try your hardest)
  4. 4. Things are going to Change For many students, it will be the first time you are on your own. Things to keep in mind: ❖ Parents/Guardians will not be there to cook, clean, and do laundry for you. It is important for you to learn how to do these things and be responsible for yourself and surroundings. ❖ You will most likely have a roommate(s). Be respectful to your roommate(s) by keeping the common areas clean and tidy. ❖ Attendance, participation, and handing in assignments is all up to you! But do not worry, Professors are understanding and remind students about important due dates. ❖ You will be on your own. Everything you do is completely up to you. There won’t be anyone reminding you to get your work done. Your success is the result of all the effort you put in.
  5. 5. The best parts of college ❖ You get to meet a lot of new people from various backgrounds ❖ You become a strong analytical thinker which allows you to discover who you are ❖ You have a lot more independence ❖ Choice: you get to decide everything you do with your time ❖ There is always some type of activity or function on campus that is fun and widens your knowledge ❖ You make connections and friendships that will last a lifetime
  6. 6. Be Adventurous, Explore Beyond Campus Take a break from the campus surrounding, bring your friends downtown, or meet new friends at coffee shops! ❖Downtown ❖Beaches ❖Hikes ❖Museums ❖Explore neighboring cities You will find perfect studying spots, awesome food, and places to let loose after
  7. 7. Places to Look For Finding these places while you explore campus will save you a lot of time when you need them. ❖Health Center ❖Career Center ❖Financial Aid Office ❖Gyms ❖Libraries ❖Campus Store
  8. 8. Tips for College Students ❖ Meet all of your professors in office hours. ❖ Seek help. Ask questions. It will make you successful. ❖ Make friends with people who are outside of your dorm and in a different major. ❖ Be honest: to others and yourself. ❖ Contact your family and friends from back home. ❖ Take some alone time to discover who you are. ❖ Step outside of your comfort zone. ❖ Take care of yourself: do what you need to do for your physical and mental health ❖ Time Management: Very important, you don’t want to be procrastinating on assignments due the next day. Use your time wisely. Be Happy!
