• Unlike other Darshanas or philosophies the ultimate goal of
Ayurveda science is not merely treating the disease but maintenance
of health.
• “Moksho rajostamoabhavaat balvat karma samkshayaat. Viyogo
sarvasam yogo mokso apunarbava uchyate”- ( Cha/shaa -1/3)
• The entanglement of mind with the Rajas and tamas is the original
cause of repeated cyclic birth and death and actual liberation is
occurring when mind gets liberated from the influence of Rajas and
tamas.
Ayurvedic names
• Vimoksha, Vimukti, Mukti
• Apavarga ,Kaivalya, Nirvana, Kaivalya
• Kevala jnana, Apavarga, Parampada
• Brahma jnana, Brahma sthithi
Contemporary names –
• Liberation, Salvation, Freedom
• Enlightenment, Self realization, Self actualization
• Absence of suffering
• Experience of oneness with Brahman, the one supreme self
• State of true knowledge, bliss, State of peace
• “Yoge mokshe cha sarvasaam vednaanaam avartanam |Mokkshe
nivruttir vishesha yoge pravartak ||.Ch/Shaa 5/10
• Charak in the sharir ch-5 has gone in detail describing the proper
procedure for attainment of mukti / mumurshlingam as follows –
• First the person frustrated in physical world and desiring for mukti
should search a mentor or Guru and obey their orders.
• He should read scriptures and act accordingly with stability of mind,
he should associate with good peoples, keep away from bad habit
person speak truth beneficial for all living beings
Moksa, in terms of liberation can be understood in two senses –
• Freedom from the cycle of death and rebirth
• Freedom from one’
s ignorance and subsequent self-realization
• Our body is made up of combination of panchmahabhut and
eternal soul. The physical body is subjected to perish one day
but the eternal soul remains unaffected
• The mind , senses, intelligence , ego and soul forms the subtle
software of the hard external physical body and runs the
physical body .
• After death the physical body shed down and merges with the
earth elements whereas the subtle body which includes mind,
senses, 4 fine elements , ego and soul along with the
impression of karmic samskaras quits the body and migrates to
another body suitable for fulfilling its next journey
Classification of Moksha
Moksha is more than liberation from life-rebirth cycle of
suffering. The school of Vedanta classifies liberation into
• Jivan-mukti –
liberation in this life. This includes psychological
liberation from fears besetting one’
s life (adhyasa) and
ignorance or anything that is not true knowledge (avidya).
• Videha-mukti –
liberation after death

• Meanings of Siddhi
Siddhi, a Sanskrit term means

• Siddhis are spiritual, paranormal, supernatural, magical powers,
abilities and attainments that are the products of spiritual
advancements through Sadhanas such as Yoga and Meditation
• Acharya Charaka has mentioned Ashta Siddhis which can be
achieved by regular practice of Yoga.
• The Ashta Siddhis are
Aavesha – ability to enter into the other person’s body
Chetaso jnaanam – mind reading
Arthaanaam chandatah kriyaa – ability to control one’s sense
objects according to will (perception of sense objects i.e. vision,
sound, touch, taste and smell at will, as and when needed)
Drushtihi – ability to see the objects which are otherwise not
perceivable by the eyes
Shrotram – ability to hear sounds even made at long distances
and otherwise not audible
Smriti – extraordinary memory
Kanti – extraordinary luster
Ishtatah adarshanam – ability to become invisible and visible
at will
Ways to attain Ashta Siddhi
• Acharya Patanjali in his Yoga Sutra treatise mentions the ways (methods)
of attaining the supernatural powers i.e. siddhis. Below mentioned are the
ways of attaining Siddhi as per Patanjali –
• Janma (by birth) – The children who are born to those parents who are
spiritually high receive the powers of spirituality through birth owing to the
womb they are born in and also as a part of genetic trait (predisposition).
Alternatively it can be said that some people, by birth may have
extraordinary powers to attain siddhi because of their attainments in their
previous lives.
• Aushadhi (medicine, herbs, drugs) – Miraculous and special powers
(siddhi) can be attained by consuming some herbs and medicines.
• Mantra (incantations) – Special powers can be attained by
recitation (incantation) of mantras (sacred hymns which are
powerful by nature). Such Mantras are found in Vedas.
• Tapa(penance, self discipline) – The clouds of ignorance in the
mind are warded off by following penance and self-discipline.
With this, one will be able to control the 5 elements of nature
as and when he wishes to do. It is possible by un-perverted
thinking. This will help in attaining siddhi.
Naishthiki Chikitsa
• Improving quality and strength of mind so that one attains a
state of supreme and eternal happiness.
• Treatment For Excess Desires - Naishtiki Chikitsa
• ‘The starting point of all achievement is desire’ - Napolean
Hill
• We all have desires. Healthy and constructive desires are
always good. They help in individual development.
• But when the desires take the form of greed and lust, they
become dangerous and bring miseries.
• Ayurveda has opined that the desires blended with greed i.e.
Upadha as the root cause for all our miseries
• To escape from miseries, one needs to keep away from Upadha
or desires (attachment).
• Liberation from miseries is called Nishta. Since Nishta
liberates from the miseries, it is a form of salvation (moksha
rupa). Naishtiki chikitsa is the treatment to attain salvation
(moksha, liberation from miseries).
• Since Naistiki is devoid of desires and attachment, it becomes
the way for attaining the ultimate aim of the life, one among
the four objectives of human life (purushartha chatushtaya) i.e.
Moksha or salvation.
• Treatment which is devoid of upadha, here refers to ‘desires’.
Desireless which aid to get ultimate salvation.
• Upadha (desires) give rise to dukkha (misery), dukha is the
primary cause which make individual to dwell in the web of
birth and death.
• Person in pursuit of obtaining all desirous materialistic world,
will become victim for psychological fluctuations like anger,
lust, hatred, enmity etc. which makes an individual to get
entangled in the web of birth and death (Janma Marana
Chakra)

Moksha • Unlike other Darshanas or philosophies the ultimate goal of Ayurveda science is not merely treating the disease but maintenance of health. • “Moksho rajostamoabhavaat balvat karma samkshayaat. Viyogo sarvasam yogo mokso apunarbava uchyate”- ( Cha/shaa -1/3) • The entanglement of mind with the Rajas and tamas is the original cause of repeated cyclic birth and death and actual liberation is occurring when mind gets liberated from the influence of Rajas and tamas.

Ayurvedic names • Vimoksha, Vimukti, Mukti • Apavarga ,Kaivalya, Nirvana, Kaivalya • Kevala jnana, Apavarga, Parampada • Brahma jnana, Brahma sthithi Contemporary names – • Liberation, Salvation, Freedom • Enlightenment, Self realization, Self actualization • Absence of suffering • Experience of oneness with Brahman, the one supreme self • State of true knowledge, bliss, State of peace
  • 5. • “Yoge mokshe cha sarvasaam vednaanaam avartanam |Mokkshe nivruttir vishesha yoge pravartak ||.Ch/Shaa 5/10 • Charak in the sharir ch-5 has gone in detail describing the proper procedure for attainment of mukti / mumurshlingam as follows – • First the person frustrated in physical world and desiring for mukti should search a mentor or Guru and obey their orders. • He should read scriptures and act accordingly with stability of mind, he should associate with good peoples, keep away from bad habit person speak truth beneficial for all living beings

Moksa, in terms of liberation can be understood in two senses – • Freedom from the cycle of death and rebirth • Freedom from one’ s ignorance and subsequent self-realization • Our body is made up of combination of panchmahabhut and eternal soul. The physical body is subjected to perish one day but the eternal soul remains unaffected
  • 7. • The mind , senses, intelligence , ego and soul forms the subtle software of the hard external physical body and runs the physical body . • After death the physical body shed down and merges with the earth elements whereas the subtle body which includes mind, senses, 4 fine elements , ego and soul along with the impression of karmic samskaras quits the body and migrates to another body suitable for fulfilling its next journey
  • 8. Classification of Moksha Moksha is more than liberation from life-rebirth cycle of suffering. The school of Vedanta classifies liberation into • Jivan-mukti – liberation in this life. This includes psychological liberation from fears besetting one’ s life (adhyasa) and ignorance or anything that is not true knowledge (avidya). • Videha-mukti – liberation after death

Ashtasiddhis • Meanings of Siddhi Siddhi, a Sanskrit term means Accomplishments Attainments Success Perfection • Siddhis are spiritual, paranormal, supernatural, magical powers, abilities and attainments that are the products of spiritual advancements through Sadhanas such as Yoga and Meditation
  • 10. • Acharya Charaka has mentioned Ashta Siddhis which can be achieved by regular practice of Yoga. • The Ashta Siddhis are Aavesha – ability to enter into the other person’s body Chetaso jnaanam – mind reading Arthaanaam chandatah kriyaa – ability to control one’s sense objects according to will (perception of sense objects i.e. vision, sound, touch, taste and smell at will, as and when needed) Drushtihi – ability to see the objects which are otherwise not perceivable by the eyes
  • 11. Shrotram – ability to hear sounds even made at long distances and otherwise not audible Smriti – extraordinary memory Kanti – extraordinary luster Ishtatah adarshanam – ability to become invisible and visible at will
  • 12. Ways to attain Ashta Siddhi • Acharya Patanjali in his Yoga Sutra treatise mentions the ways (methods) of attaining the supernatural powers i.e. siddhis. Below mentioned are the ways of attaining Siddhi as per Patanjali – • Janma (by birth) – The children who are born to those parents who are spiritually high receive the powers of spirituality through birth owing to the womb they are born in and also as a part of genetic trait (predisposition). Alternatively it can be said that some people, by birth may have extraordinary powers to attain siddhi because of their attainments in their previous lives. • Aushadhi (medicine, herbs, drugs) – Miraculous and special powers (siddhi) can be attained by consuming some herbs and medicines.
  • 13. • Mantra (incantations) – Special powers can be attained by recitation (incantation) of mantras (sacred hymns which are powerful by nature). Such Mantras are found in Vedas. • Tapa(penance, self discipline) – The clouds of ignorance in the mind are warded off by following penance and self-discipline. With this, one will be able to control the 5 elements of nature as and when he wishes to do. It is possible by un-perverted thinking. This will help in attaining siddhi.

Naishthiki Chikitsa • Improving quality and strength of mind so that one attains a state of supreme and eternal happiness. • Treatment For Excess Desires - Naishtiki Chikitsa • ‘The starting point of all achievement is desire’ - Napolean Hill • We all have desires. Healthy and constructive desires are always good. They help in individual development.
  • 15. • But when the desires take the form of greed and lust, they become dangerous and bring miseries. • Ayurveda has opined that the desires blended with greed i.e. Upadha as the root cause for all our miseries • To escape from miseries, one needs to keep away from Upadha or desires (attachment). • Liberation from miseries is called Nishta. Since Nishta liberates from the miseries, it is a form of salvation (moksha rupa). Naishtiki chikitsa is the treatment to attain salvation (moksha, liberation from miseries).
  • 16. • Since Naistiki is devoid of desires and attachment, it becomes the way for attaining the ultimate aim of the life, one among the four objectives of human life (purushartha chatushtaya) i.e. Moksha or salvation. • Treatment which is devoid of upadha, here refers to ‘desires’. Desireless which aid to get ultimate salvation. • Upadha (desires) give rise to dukkha (misery), dukha is the primary cause which make individual to dwell in the web of birth and death.
  • 17. • Person in pursuit of obtaining all desirous materialistic world, will become victim for psychological fluctuations like anger, lust, hatred, enmity etc. which makes an individual to get entangled in the web of birth and death (Janma Marana Chakra)
