  3. 3. TurfrainEach winter your irrigation system will need to be “winterized” toprevent the water lines from freezing and cracking. This involvesblowing out the system with compressed air and turning the main valveoff to prevent water from flowing back into the system and freezing. Email - Contact no-(416) 856-5000

TurfrainWinterizing your lawn sprinkler system is very simple buthas to be done in a proper way.1.Turn Sprinkler system off2.Turn off the water to the irrigation system at main valve.3.Deactivate electronic controller(s) and all valves in the system4.Drain all of the water out of the sprinkler system by air compressor Email - Contact no-(416) 856-5000
  5. 5. TurfrainFor the simple reason that even after you have drained water out of the system, it isbest to call a professional contractor for winterization due to, there could be somewater remains in the pipe that can freeze, expand and crack the PVC piping.Polyethylene pipes are more flexible and can expand under pressure but, water leftinside could freeze and burst the pipe walls. Freezing water in the backflow preventerwill damage the internal mechanism. Email - Contact no - (416) 856-5000
  6. 6. TurfrainBlow-out Winterization MethodIt is recommended that a qualified licensed contractor performs a blow-out method towinterize your lawn sprinkler system. Serious personal injury may result if you do notproceed with care. One small mistake and you will no longer own a lawn sprinklersystem. To winterize your lawn sprinkler system, you will need a commercial size aircompressor. You need to carefully attach the compressor to the mainline through aquick coupler, hose bib or other type connection, which is located after the backflowdevice. Shut off the irrigation water supply, close the compressor valve then attach theair compressor hose to the fitting. Then slowly open the valve on the compressor. Theblow out pressure should NOT exceed 80 PSI. Email - Contact no-(416) 856-5000
  7. 7. TurfrainYou can start activating each zone from the furthest zone from the compressor slowlyworking your way to the closest zone to the compressor. Keep each zone activateduntil no water remains in the heads. Once the zone is dry, do not continue to blow airthrough the pipe. Continuing to blow air through dry pipe can damage. Turn off the controller after you are done blowing out thesystem. You can install the threaded caps over the open ends of the backflowpreventer risers and any blow out fittings to keep garbage out until spring. Store thebackflow preventer inside for the winter.
