3. WHAT IS A MAGIC MIRROR?
• A magic mirror is a mirror-based information display
• It consists of a display and a one-way-mirror
• Due to the properties of a one-way-mirror, white
and other bright colored text passes through the
mirror while the black parts act as regular mirror

4. WHERE CAN A MAGIC MIRROR
BE UTILIZED?
• A magic mirror works well as a substitute for a regular mirror
• It adds the benefit of being able to check relevant information
like weather forecast, time and calendar with a glance
• In a smart living environment it can be used as a hub for displaying
information of the environment and the devices it utilizes
• For example temperature and humidity from home-automation
system

5. MAGICMIRROR² - AN OPEN
SOURCE SMART MIRROR
PLATFORM
• MagicMirror² is a module-based smart mirror platform created
by Michael Teeuw
• Modules can be downloaded from the Internet or can be
created based on a template
• Modules can display information on the screen, change how
the mirror works or how/what modules are displayed

6. MAGIC MIRROR – PROJECT AT
IT’S CURRENT STATE
• The magic mirror at SAMK is developed to have the following
functionalities:
• Ability to check information of a smart living environment
• Based on a custom made module
• Facial recognition with usage tracking and profiles for different users
• Based on a facial recognition module by Paul-Vincent Roll and a MySQL
database

7. MAGIC MIRROR – CURRENTLY
IN DEVELOPMENT
• Making the mirror to work as a form of communication
• Being able to send and receive messages from the mirror
• Currently only alerts and notifications can be sent to the mirror
• Designing a frame for the mirror so it can be put to test use

11. WHAT IS IT / HOW IS IT USED
• A smart chair is a normal chair with pressure sensors
inside the lining.
• The smart chair is mostly used to play games by using
your bodyweight to do things in the game.
• It can also be used to check if the person sitting in
the chair is sitting upright.

12. HOW DOES IT WORK?
• An arduino is attached to the bottom of the chair.
• That arduino sends data from the pressure sensors
to the android device via bluetooth.
• There are 9 sensors in total.
• Everything is wireless.
• The connection is established from inside the
game so no pairing between the devices is needed.

Physiological changes with aging, e.g. decreased hand grip strength
Cabinets: knobs --> lever-style or ‘D’ handles. Adding “D” shaped
pulls/handles allow people of all abilities to open and close the
cabinets easily
Why? They can be personalized, customized, adapted for all
