Bearings are the only parts that come up for the replacement and the bearing reveal a pretty long life. Bearings have lubrication grooves and function as flooded bearings.<br />

The pump and motor are separated thermally by an adaptor which prevents heat transfer from the pump to motor area. In these pumps an independent circulating system with cooling jacket and heat exchanger is provided. These are almost identical in construction to the HS type. The automatic thrust balancing mechanism provides for exceptionally long life of the bearings.<br />

Automatic 'Thrust Balancing eliminates load on the bearings, while the pump is running. Bearing are designed for life in excess of three years but most often last very much longer. Bearing material options are available in Carbon Graphite, Silicon Carbide or Tungsten Carbide to ensure compatibility with the process fluid including special hard materials, which when combined with hardened<br />shaft journal ensure increased life and enable the pump to cope with abrasive byproducts or other adverse conditions.<br />

No: HD-21370 & 21371<br />Above two pumps were procured vide P.O. no. 136176/FDL9 dtd. 18.01.2002 and commissioned in our Plant in August 2002. Till now the pumps were running satisfactorily without any trouble. However on morning of 23.09.2008, one of the pumps, 21371 gave abnormal sound (rubbing sound). Immediately we stopped the pump. There was bearing indication. We dismantled the pump and found that the bottom bearing cracked circumferentially. The top bearing was found to be o.k. the bearing monitor did not show any signal although there was some rubbing at the tip. Slight rubbing of the impeller with the bottom (casing wear ring) also observed. We serviced the pump, replaced both bearing, sleeve, bearing monitor and the pump was run. Found to be alright.<br /> <br />We also mention that this is the first maintenance of the pump after commissioning (six years complete) with a running hours of 25500.<br /> <br />We procured spares like Bearings, sleeves, Thrust washer, Gasket and bearing monitors as recommended by you vide our P.O. no. 335713/DJ/08 of 14.11.2003. We are shortly initiating purchase action for above spares.<br /> <br />What I observed that in case both bearing fails, there is possibility of impeller rubbing with bottom wear ring, even permanent impeller damage.
