  • Erik, en vardagshjälte. Detta föredrag kommer handla om honom och hans kollegor, de sitter här som deltager på en av Scanias förarutbildningar
  • I’m convinced we have a portfolio of services that can help our customers to achieve sustainable fuel reduction effects. Driver Training as the umbrella fully in compliance with the EU directive 2003/59 and local stand alone and special training modules supported by Scania Driver Support and Scania Driver Follow-up.
  • Scania has known for long that Scania Driver Training could reduces the fuel consumption by 10% from one day to another (with a very short return of investment time compared to other features that you will hear about today). The impact could decrease over time and the driver falls back into old patterns. To maintain the knowledge additional training should be applied, Scania recommends to train the drivers at least once a year (in EU a mandatory training of 35 hour within 5 years are stipulated). Investigations shows that there is a risk that the effect decrease even if the driver is monitored by a fleet management system, but if the driver gets feed-back instantly while driving the good effect is kept longer.

  • The commitment to improving road safety is part of Scania’s heritage and an integral part of our product identity We have come far with technical innovations and high quality standards but we have realised that we need to be even more proactive in this area Development of systems for Active and Passive safety – not enough without a driver understanding the system If you take all vehicle improvements into account we have reduced the fuel consumption by 50% the last 40 years How can we still further reduce the impact on the environment, minimise the number of injured on the road or reduce fuel consumption? ….. all at the same time …. The answer is – The driver – the single most important factor for making this happen
  • Let me give you an example. If we could train every driver in defensive and fuel efficient driving we would help any transport company to improve fuel economy by 10% A conservative figure that however … … will add up to no less than 6,000 litres … as well as significantly lower emissions Not to mention the number of injured on the roads. Because careful driving keeps the vehicle on the road. 6,000 litres x 15,000,000 trucks Customers love it ! But how do we get there? The customer starts to be aware. Now you are aware. How about the drivers?

  • Claes Åkerlund Concept manager Scania CV AB And, there is more, a world première, first on the market: Scania Driver Support. We all know that driver training is the single most effective means to reduce fuel consumption, but training results can be difficult to retain for long. This is where Scania Driver Support comes in. Scania Driver Support is a new real-time support system that gives professional truck drivers hints and feedback to refine their driving style. This innovative system is designed to maintain the skills obtained during driver training at a high level. The focus is on key parameters with a heavy influence on safety and economy. It coaches the driver to climb a hill economically, use auxiliary brakes, anticipate and change gear when necessary, very specific and useful tips to the driver, without causing distraction or annoyance and based on the same principles as Scania driver training. All in all, it keeps up the skills and encourages improvements. Our field tests have shown that an experienced driver can save more than 10% fuel just by starting to use driver support! And the drivers really like the support they get. One driver said that “now that I’ve tested the system a couple of months, it’s become a challenge for me. I’m completely focused on getting the highest possible overall mark. This is something entirely new in the truck industry”
  • Driving forces Here and now, not there and then Give the driver some kind of aid Coach, not punish The system evaluates the driving based on 4 categories Braking Driving in hills gear selection planning ahead Test driver, experienced driver, weekly journey Swedish east coast to Norweigan west coas. By using Driver Support he could lower his fuel consumption by 7-8 %.

  • For further analysis we provide our customers with an easy to use portal service. The main service we offer to support the customer in following up on both vehicle and driver is a report based on traffic colours. The main idea is that the vehicles or drives that breach one or more limits float up to the top of the list. They also becomes highligted in red or yellow based on the weighting of the parameter breached. On our portal we also offer other commodity services such as position based services, emission reports, maintenance planning and tachograph data storage.

  • There are 17,000,000 heavy trucks daily transporting goods. They are driven by approximately 30,000,000 drivers all over the globe Without these drivers we wouldn’t have all the stuff around us Do you believe we will see less transport in the future ? … global population … more developed countries … consumption … infrastructure Probably not !...... the number of vehicles will increase Living on a planet with limited resources Hence, we have a problem…or should I say a challenge Because all these vehicles on the roads also affect us in another way environment road safety economy Here we can make a difference, multiply the figures we mentioned earlier regarding !!
