  2. 2. What is my purpose here today? <ul><li>Why I picked this topic in particular? </li></ul><ul><li>Not to repeat a heated debate, but to try to come up with a solution to hindrances in our educational system by trying to combine most of the advantages of both sides of the debate. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Disclaimer <ul><li>Everything I claim from now on is a largely stereotypical. I know how we shouldn’t generalize people, ideas, or concepts and that it is impossible to represent a whole categories, but for the case of this presentation, please understand… </li></ul>

WHAT IS EDUCATION? <ul><li>Definition/Purpose?? </li></ul><ul><li>“ the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life.” – Dictionary.com </li></ul><ul><li>'Education without values, as useful as it is, seems to make a man more clever devil.' C S Lewis </li></ul>

  7. 7. OR… <ul><li>“ AMERICAN” OR “WESTERN” RABBIT/DOLPHIN/PANDA/LAMB MOM? </li></ul>
  8. 8. WHICH ONE? EA Mom W Mom Advantages <ul><li>Believes that hard work can allow a person to discover his or her potential. </li></ul><ul><li>The push for perfection earlier in life actually gets the kids to prepare for the future well. </li></ul><ul><li>Still can achieve great success without getting unhealthy or tired of screaming and scolding. </li></ul><ul><li>Kids are encouraged to discover their own interests on their own. </li></ul>Disadvantages <ul><li>Direct feedback of feelings, though helpful, may sometimes may hurt a sensitive child. </li></ul><ul><li>Many people worry about the psychological effects, such as lowered self-esteem. </li></ul><ul><li>Some kids aren’t forced to work their hardest. They won’t find out their own capabilities. </li></ul><ul><li>Sometimes children need some intimidation to motivate them. </li></ul>
