Italy borders are France, Switzerland, Austria, and Slovenia, and is approximately delimited by
the Alpine watershed, enclosing the Po Valley and the Venetian Plain. To the south, it consists
of the entirety of the Italian Peninsula and the two biggest Mediterranean
islands of Sicily and Sardinia.
Liguria is known for herbs and vegetables in its cuisine. Savory pies are popular, mixing greens
and artichokes along with cheeses, milk curds and eggs. Onions and olive oil are used.
The Po is a river that flows either 652 km or 682 km considering the length of the Maira, a right
bank tributary – eastward across northern Italy, from a spring seeping from a stony hillside at
Pian del Re, a flat place at the head of the Val Po under the northwest face of Monviso (in
the Cottian Alps) through a delta projecting into the Adriatic Sea near Venice.
The Alps are one of the great mountain range systems of Europe stretching approximately
1,200 km across eight Alpine countries from Austria and Slovenia in the
east, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany, and France to the west, and Italy and Monaco to the
Leonardo was, and is, renowned primarily as a painter. Among his works, the Mona Lisa is the
most famous and most parodied portrait and The Last Supper the most reproduced religious
painting of all time, with their fame approached only by Michelan.
