There's nothing too straightforward when it comes to installing parental controls. I feel this way even as a software developer! These slides give parents an overview of how to enforce parental controls on a Windows 7 computer.
19. Back on the previous screen under
the bold ‘Additional things you can
do’ click ‘Set up Parental Controls’.
20. NOTE: There are two different paths
for setting up parental controls at
this point. If you downloaded and
installed Windows Essentials,
Windows Live Family Safety will be
your provider. If not, you will not
have any additional controls. The
next three slides explain the latter.
The slides after that show the path I
would recommend for setting up
parental controls using Windows
Essentials.
21. Select the child account to set up
parental controls using Windows
Live Family Safety.
22. Refer to the websites below to then
adjust the following individual
settings for the child’s account:
• Time Limits
• Games
• Allow or block specific programs

23. Select the ‘On, enforce current
settings’ radio button. Click the ‘OK’
button.
24. When you installed Windows Essentials
click the ‘Accept’ button to agree to the
Microsoft Services Agreement.
25. Select the child account to set up
parental controls using Windows
Live Family Safety.
26. Check the checkbox on the right to
monitor account. Click ‘Next’ button.
27. Type in your Windows Live ID and
password if prompted. Click the
‘Sign in’ button.
28. Pull down the Family Safety members
dropdown and select your name and
e-mail. Click ‘Save’ button.
