Antarctic- Guess the Climate
1. Guess the terminology! You have until the end of the two minutes before the answers are revealed. Why is Antarctica so cold? Antarctica is at the base of the globe, because the Earth is titled on its axes, when the suns rays hit the Earth, it covers a larger surface area. Therefore heating is less. Also the atmosphere that the suns rays have to penetrate is thicker, therefore more energy is lost or reflected back into space. Antarctica is predominately ice, heat is reflected off the ice, this is called the Albedo Effect. Antarctica is also a relatively high continent, due to its elevation, temperatures are lower. Places in the interior of Antarctica are also very cold, this is because land cools quicker than sea during the winter, we called this continentality. 1 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 2
