  5. 5. Complicating matters, current levels & availability of financial support for students is causing the system to fall short of ensuring Australians from all groups in society have the opportunity to participate successfully in higher education…
  6. 6. “ I am about to go on full-time unpaid placement for three months, which is required for my degree. During this time, I will only have Centrelink payments, and therefore be spending 60% of my income on accommodation” - La Trobe University student (comments from a 2008 survey conducted by La Trobe Student’s Representative Council) “ Without Youth Allowance, I could not afford to be at uni , simple as that.
