  2. 2. Page | 1 HOW TO DRESS FOR AN INTERVIEW The first impression you make on a potential employer is the most important one. The first judgment an interviewer makes is going to be based on how you look and what you are wearing. Thats why it’s always important to dress professionally for a job interview, even if the work environment is casual. Whats the appropriate dress code for an interview? Youll want that first impression to be not just a good one, but, a great one. The candidate dressed in a suit and tie is going to make a much better impression than the candidate dressed in scruffy jeans and a t-shirt. MALE INTERVIEW ATTIRE • Suit (solid colour - navy or dark grey) • Long sleeve shirt (white or coordinated with the suit) • Belt • Tie (plain or simple check or stripe co-ordinated with your suit or shirt- NO NOVALTY TIES!) • Dark socks, conservative dark leather shoes • Little or no jewellery • Neat, professional hairstyle • Limit the aftershave • Portfolio or briefcase| www.thelocumpulse.com | Direct No : + 44 (0) 7938 142006 | Email : info@thelocumpulse.com | |145 – 157 St John Street |London| EC1V 4PW|
  3. 3. Page | 2 FEMALE INTERVIEW ATTIRE • Suit (navy, black or dark grey) • The suit skirt should be long enough so you can sit down comfortably • Coordinated blouse • Conservative shoes • Limited jewellery (no dangling earrings or arms full of bracelets) • No jewellery is better than cheap jewellery • Professional hairstyle • Light make-up and perfume • Neatly manicured clean nails • Portfolio or briefcase WHAT NOT TO BRING TO THE INTERVIEW • Gum ( i.e. do not chew any gum in the interview!) • Cell phone ( if you do bring your mobile switch it off and keep it out of sight) • Coffee or soft drink • If you have lots of piercings, leave some of your rings at home (earrings only, is a good rule) • Cover tattoos| www.thelocumpulse.com | Direct No : + 44 (0) 7938 142006 | Email : info@thelocumpulse.com | |145 – 157 St John Street |London| EC1V 4PW|
  4. 4. Page | 3 INTERVIEW ATTIRE TIPS • Before you even think about going on an interview, make sure you have appropriate interview attire and everything fits correctly. • Get your clothes ready the night before, so you dont have to spend time getting them ready on the day of the interview. • If your clothes are dry clean only, take them to the cleaners after an interview, so they are ready for next time. • Polish your shoes. • Bring a breath mint or freshener and use it before you enter the building/interview • Be fully prepared for your interview, make sure you have researched the organisation fully, you will be asked! • Set off early for your interview and make sure you get there in plenty of time, nothing annoys hiring personnel more than candidates late for interview!
