  11. • Don’t take unnecessary items with you • Take preferably an older phone with you but if you take an expensive one make sure you don’t show it often • The same with photographic machines • Stick together walk in groups and always pay attention to your surroundings so you don’t get surprises • Don’t go into the favelas (slums in Sao Paulo and Rio) without someone that knows the place • The inhabitants (and housekeeping in hostels) are usually poor, so there is a chance your belongings can be stolen in Hotel rooms (incl. clothes) always leave everything locked inside your luggage (should have a lock) Safety tips and do’s and don’ts (By Gonçalo)
