1. My name is Timothy Bertrand, I graduated from the University of Minnesota
Duluth with a Degree in Environmental Studies of the Natural Sciences. I enjoy
spending my time outdoors, whether I am fly-Fishing, backpacking, skinning up
backcountry snowboard lines, riding single track and downhill on my bike, Hunting or
just camping with friends at a campground. It is my goal to spread my passion for
these activities to anyone who is interested, and the want to protect the environment
that provides these opportunities for adventure. Because of this passion,
environmental sustainability in industrial sectors interested me the most while
earning my education and I pursued a job in the area after graduation. I was
fortunate enough to find a position with a young recycling company, RSI Recycling
INC. At RSI I was hired as their Environmental Health and Safety compliance
coordinator, I oversaw environmental and safety permitting and compliance of four
scrap yards around the Twin Cities Metro Area. I wrote the storm water pollution
prevention plan and safety programs for each facility as well as performing weekly
inspection of sites for safety, SWPPP and NFPA compliance. I led monthly safety
meetings with employees at each facility and organized weekly 5 min meetings for
facility managers to have with their employees. During my time at RSI I was able to
obtain my HAZWOPER 40 hr training certification as well as EPA 608 and 609
certifications. I enjoyed my work with RSI but I found a position in Vail Colorado
working on their environmental team, Vail ECHO. The mountains have always been
a second home for me so I was ecstatic when I was offered the job and immediately
moved to Breckenridge, Colorado to start this new chapter. Through Vail ECHO I
was able to see first hand how a large corporation can manage its environmental
impact responsibly. By promoting volunteering to it's employees and education of
the public, Vail was able to develop a premier environmental awareness program.
Becoming a leader amongst environmentally sustainable outdoor recreation
providers throughout the world. I eventually took the opportunity for a pay raise in
Vail's security program and began working in Breckenridge for the resort's expansion
onto peak 6 of the Ten Mile Range. I provided trail users of the area with information
2. on the project and addressed questions and concerns with the expansion. I also led
users of the Peak Trail on a safe alternate route around the work site. I continued to
work for Breckenridge Security after completion of the Peak 6 expansion and
performed daily site inspections of Breckenridge properties, Including AED
inspections and EOD lock audits. I handled incident reporting and safety compliance
for employees and visitors at Breckenridge Resort. I left security to manage a Ski
and Bike shop in the town of Breckenridge where I excelled due to my love of shop
work and outdoor recreation, and being able to bring my passion to work and share it
with others. I have experience as a team leader and instructor, I am proficient in
Better Management Practices (BMP) and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) use.
I am exceptional working with my hands, and I am able to take on any task
presented to me. I have recently have moved back to Minnesota to assist in A family
health concern and am now ready to get back on the career path I initially embarked
on. I look forward to becoming part of an efficient team that desires to make an
impact on our environment. My resume contains minute details of the work I have
done over the past 5 years, and I look forward to the chance to discuss my
experience in greater detail. I hope that you will consider me to become an asset for
your companies future.
Sincerely,
Timothy R. Bertrand
