• To Ezine Or Not To Ezine

    1. 1. Online PR To Ezine Or Not To Ezine?
    2. 2. Why?

Traditionally it had great results, then G tweaked their algo’s generically and Ezine content became devalued.

Why would we do it today?

Traffic?

Link juice?

Vote topic?

Traffic – only if it is optimised and promoted.

Linkjuice – forgetaboudit

Vote Topic – perhaps just a bit.

    3. 3. How?

The theory goes: If the piece is promoted then it will get more readership – more readership and more direct traffic – also means potential for more links to the piece which means more link juice to you.

Does it work this way? Only if it is catchy, optimised and you promote the piece in social media. For that it needs to be on a hot topic – generic boring stuff never quite makes the buzz.

Jeremy Luebke in response to Article Syndications Sites By Michael Gray “ I think the articles directories themselves are worthless, it’s when they get picked up by other sites is where the value comes in.”
    4. 4. What do the numbers say?

We have been writing articles for our own clients. Google analytics snapshot from the beginning of the year reveals:

Dickiestore:

2818 visits from referring sites

Around 8 articles were submitted to various ezines:

Position 16 Employersjobs with 23 clicks

Position 63 Ezinearticles with 7 clicks

High bounce rate!!

AES Finance

806 visits from referring sites

15 Articles and 8 blogs submitted

Position 26 Ezinearticles 4 visits 100% bounce

Position 79 GoArticles 1 Visit 100% bounce

    5. 5. Referring sites - Dickiesstore
    6. 6. Alternatives?

What should we be doing with our hard earned content?

Keep it! - Start your own ezine/blog/content network!

Guest Blog - build your reputation, get a link.

Create Link Bait – Make sure it is fresh, relevant, and interesting enough that users will submit them it Digg, Stumble and other sites, gaining exposure for the piece.

    7. 7. So…

We put a lot of effort into our content and then squander it online.

We can potentially get so much more out of the content piece.

We need to refine our process.
