This document describes an internal furnace boiler that has a three pass smoke-tube design suitable for manual firing of coal, wood, or briquettes. The furnace is submerged in water and contains fixed grate bars where the fuel is fired, and the flue gases travel inside smoke tubes in the second and third passes. An optional water pre-heater can recover waste heat from outgoing flue gases. Advantages include a large heating surface for heat transfer and steam holding capacity for fluctuating demands.

3.  This is the conventional three pass
smoke-tube design coal/wood fired
steam boiler having internal
furnace. This comes in dry back,
semi-wet back and fully wet-back
options and is most suitable for
manual firing of coal, wood or
briquettes.

water and the grate bars are fixed
inside the furnace. The fuel is fired
on the grate and the flue gases
