5. 5. Flanders 14.2% Antwerp 19.8% Limburg 4.7% Brabant 15.8% Brussels 42.8% Southern Belgium 2.6%

Distribution of Job Opportunities The distribution of IT job opportunities throughout Belgium for April 2009 is as follows;

Most job opportunities can be found in:

Brussels account for 42.8% of IT jobs.

Antwerp, Brabant and Flanders are

highly industrialised regions and

account for 49.8% of IT jobs.

Southern Belgium is characterised by

mining, agriculture and tourism and thus

only accounts for 2.5% of IT jobs in

Belgium.

Demand for IT Professionals in Belgium
 6. 6.

The growth of the software sector has fuelled demand with software positions.

Developers, testers, business analysts and project managers now equate to 55%

of jobs onsite.

Tester roles are demonstrating steady demand as projects commissioned in 2008

need testing skills to move towards completion.

Among the skills in decline, developer, project manager and networking roles

have declined by 4%, 5% and 3% respectively.

Demand by Skill Demand for IT Professionals in Belgium
 7. 7. Demand for IT Professionals in Belgium Future Skill Predictions The following skills are expected to be among the hottest for 2009 and beyond: 1. Help Desk / Technical Support 6. Security 2. Programming / Application Development 7. Web 2.0 3. Project Management 8. Data Center 4. Networking 9. Telecommunications 5. Business Intelligence In addition to the above skills, IT Job Board.be also envisages that the growing trend towards SaaS and SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) as well as ‘Green Computing’ will have a direct impact on the demand for infrastructure specialists. Developers with experience in open source will also increase in demand as i t is believed that 40% of IT jobs will be linked with open source by 2020.
 8. 8. Candidate Market Confidence

How are Candidates Finding the Current IT Recruitment Market?

Our survey revealed that 92% of respondents stated that the current economic

climate was making the process of looking for a job more difficult. As a result:

55% of candidates have become less selective in their job search.

- 60% of them are willing to accept a lower salary.

- 30% would consider both permanent and contract roles.

45% are investing in gaining additional IT qualifications.

42% are spending more time gathering knowledge about IT industry trends.

7 out of 10 candidates are ready to spend more than 1 hour commuting and 55% would accept to move.

Companies’ choice to employ lower salaried employees is having an impact on

candidate salary expectations. In addition, the market is now more favourable to

attract high calibre candidates.

Survey results concerning employers planning to recruit IT professionals in 2009 are as follows: - 37.5% of employers stated they were anticipating to recruit. - All employers stated they wouldn’t stop investing in IT-related projects. For those companies not recruiting, the main reasons are: - They have enough IT employees (55.2%) - They have not enough budget (6.9%) - They are cutting back their IT related projects due to the financial situation (6.9%) - They have just finished hiring (3.4%)
 10. 10. Future Challenges for the IT Recruitment Market Even if the IT recruitment market is showing positive signs for stability and growth, efforts have to be made to strengthen the sector. Some of the future challenges are; Attract Young People Initiatives are being implemented to attract young people towards IT-related studies, however it still remains a problem for future skill needs. Decrease Relocations The shortage of IT workers has left many companies with no solution but to relocate global talent to fill immediate positions.
