8 Ways to Become a Better Saver

  1. 1. 8 WAYS TO BECOME A BETTER SAVER Saving money isn’t as hard as you might think!
  2. 2. 1. WRITE DOWN GOALS.  Set specific financial goals you want to achieve by the end of the month or year. Writing them down will make them more real.
  3. 3. 2. START SMALL.  You don’t have to have start out your savings plan with hundreds of dollars. If all you can manage to save is $50 this month, at least it’s something. As long as you continue to contribute to your savings, you’ll find ways to make that contribution amount grow.
  4. 4. 3. KEEP IT SIMPLE.  Don’t make your budget or goals complex. Keeping them simple will help you stay focused on what your main objective is.
  5. 5. 4. GATHER YOUR CHANGE.  Put all your spare change into a glass jar and watch it grow over the months and years. Don’t dip into it for a while, and you’ll see how quickly it can add up.
  6. 6. 5. START EARLY.  Don’t wait till you’re 30 or 40 to start saving. Start now. The earlier you start, the more money you’ll have, and the better you’ll be at saving as you get older.
  7. 7. 6. SAVE BONUSES.  If you get a bonus from your boss, or even if you pay off a loan, put the extra money you’re now going to have in savings. Don’t spontaneously splurge on something expensive.
  8. 8. 7. SET UP DIFFERENT ACCOUNTS.  Set up separate account for each of the things you would like to save money for, whether that’s education, a car, a house, or a computer. You should also set up an account for large, constant expenses like insurance premiums.
  9. 9. 8. SET UP AUTOMATIC DEDUCTIONS.  Have your bank automatically take out 10 percent (or whatever percent you choose) of your income and put it into savings. This way you won’t forget to do it and you likely won’t even realize it happened.
  10. 10. HIRE A BANKRUPTCY ATTORNEY  If you’re not a good saver and are deep into debt, hire a bankruptcy attorney today.
