This document outlines initial ideas and research for three potential documentary topics:
1) Body image pressures on teenagers, citing survey data on dieting habits. Gyms and health organizations could provide insights. This topic appeals to 13-19 year olds dealing with puberty.
2) Police stop and search practices, citing disparity in stop rates between ethnicities. Police and affected youth could offer perspectives. As a discussion topic for teens, this meets the brief.
3) Changing dance styles over 20 years, as observed by the author as a dancer. Dancers and teachers could shed light on evolutions in teen expression. Dance interests many teens, making this idea fit for the brief.

Pressure to be
perfect/models
vs real people.
This came from BBC
three’s free speech
section.,
In a survey of girls 9
and 10 years old,
40% have tried to
lose weight,
according to an
ongoing study
funded by the
National Heart,
Lung and Blood
Institute.
While about 75
percent of the
surveyed obese
teens reported
trying to lose
weight, this group
was also more likely
to report smoking.
Girls who were
trying to lose weight
were more likely to
report participating
in more than an
hour's worth of
physical activity per
day, but data
showed that they
were also prone to
consume non-diet
soda on a regular
basis. Guys who
wanted to lose
Gyms, teenagers
and possibly
doctors/health
doctors.
This type of thing
is always being
discussed with
teens and how
they feel they
don’t look right.
This would
specifically appeal
to teenagers aged
13-19 as this
would be the age
of puberty.

Is Police stop
and search
justifiable?
This idea came from
BBC Three’s
“Free Speech”
The old figures
suggested 3.8 black
people were
stopped for every
white person,
compared to more
than ten under the
new calculation for
2011, and nearly 12
in the 2012 figures
I could talk to
police officers and
teenagers of all
gendres and
ethnicities for
their view on stop
and search
This will meet the
idea brief as this is
a topic constantly
discussed by with
young people.
This would appeal
to teens aged 1319 as this is the
direct audience of
teens

This idea came from
my own idea as I am
a dancer and is
something that has
not really been
talked about before.

I could ask
professional
dancers and
teachers
This will meet the
idea brief as dance
is something that
most teens are
interested in.
This will appeal to
teens because
It is a way how
teens can express
themselves
