  4. 4. The Whole Note The whole note is held for four steady beats. When you start playing, count to four in your head. 1-2-3-4 Or, you can say “super long note.” SU-PER-LONG-NOTE Practice clapping or playing a whole note.
  5. 5. The Half Note The half note is held for two steady beats. When you start playing, count to two in your head. 1-2 Or, you can say “long note.” LONG-NOTE Practice clapping or playing a half note.
  6. 6. The Quarter Note The quarter note is held for one steady beat. When you start playing, count to one in your head. 1 Or, you can say “short.” SHORT Practice clapping or playing a quarter note.
