  4. 4. Well, that is the same with college.<br />Over a life time …..<br />with your education …..<br />youwill make well <br />over a million dollars!<br />
  5. 5. How do they survive?<br /><ul><li>they are present/they pay attention to their surroundings</li></ul>they plan<br />they network<br />they use their resources<br />
  6. 6. So let’s use those skills to “survive” and be successful in College.<br />

Get to know the VOCABULARY<br />Lottery<br />Drop/add<br />Withdrawal<br />Academic warning, probation, suspension<br />Registration<br />Semester<br />GPA<br />Syllabus<br />Pell Grant<br />Your Student Handbook has definitions and information on all of these terms and many more…………….<br />
  8. 8. PLANNING<br />Before classes start:<br /> Have the materials you need<br />At least look at your textbooks to see what the courses are about<br />
  9. 9. Time Management is Key<br />After classes start:<br />Use a planner (you are juggling work, family, school and play). Schedule class time, work, study time and “fun”<br />Have a backup plan for getting to school, child care, etc. <br />Read your text book<br />Review frequently<br />Have a regular study place and time<br />Plan ahead for test, projects, papers and the big game or other events.<br />

  11. 11. You must attend class and be there mentally, too!<br />Yes, you must study!!!!<br />Yes, you must read your<br />textbook and do homework!!!<br />-SQ3R<br />
  12. 12. Your instructor gives you clues every class as to what is important and what you will see on quizzes, tests and exams. How?<br />Handing out printed material<br />Writing on the board<br />Making overheads/power points<br />Becoming excited about a topic<br />Telling you “you will see this again.” This is important.<br />
